NCLEX lapsed, starting all over again...

World Registration

Published

Hi everyone! I took NCLEX (California ) last 2006 and was so surprised that I passed, it was so hard - I think I barely made it :) It was a blessing. Then it became harder to apply in California since I am from overseas (Philippines) because of the retrogression of visas. I tried to apply in New Zealand and it didn't workout as well. I had to change careers because even in my country - there was saturation of nurses already . Fast forward 2012, God causes all things to work together for good, and despite the plans that didn't work out, He blessed me with a loving husband - whom I married May this year. He happens to work in California and now I am here :loveya: I am thinking of trying again.

I think I do have to re-apply and retake my NCLEX exam since it has been inactive for more than 3 years (since 2006). So I'm here to learn again, and start the whole process of applying and studying all over again - by God's grace. I hope I would pass and be able to finally practice nursing here in Cali.

This time around, maybe it will be a sweeter ending :)

You may not have to take again as NCLEX results should still be OK. Have you tried asking the BRN?

Hi Silverdragon102! I have emailed them and they said that my file was deemed abandoned due to inactivity and I will have to submit a new application and requirements together with a social security number. :sniff: By that i think they mean I have to retake...

Would you know of some threads of nurses with similar experience? NCLEX lapsed because they were unable to provide SSN number before?

Thanks!

Hmmm....this is an interesting scenario you have. But I wonder if you had a SSN and had to re-take the exam again, if the application would be subjected to the same concurrency issues that's affecting probably thousands of recent PH grads and nurses at least from the probable year starting from 2004 to present?

I think it's best to write to the CA BON directly.

Hi Steppybay!

This sounds idiotic because I am so new and just getting started to research on current events when it comes to new rules of the CA BON, one thing I know for sure is that they require an SSN before taking NCLEX... but, can you kindly enlighten me about the concurrency issue of PH graduates? Or maybe lead me to discussions about it? Thanks so much :uhoh3:

I just found out what the concurrency issue is all about... :( It's kind of discouraging... :( I'll have to check with my nursing school about this too... the thing is, my husband works here in California and working as a nurse in another state is not an option for us... hmmm...

You will have to complete a new application however your NCLEX results shouldn't have expired. But you may have issues

Thanks Silverdragon102! I think that's so much better than taking it again, although the issue on concurrency is now the problem (as I've read in other threads). Some are taking steps toward taking LVN etc., then I read an article about the future job market for LVN's too looking bleak in the future? :(

By the way, would you know of some people who has the same case as me? Like just submitting the new application but not having to take the exam?

I emailed CA BRN but they have not replied yet, I tried calling but to no avail :(
