Surgical Nurse Practitioner

  1. Does anyone have any information about surgical nurse practitioners? I didn't know such a thing existed until I was able to observe brain surgery on one of my patients this week. I didn't really get a chance to talk to her. I would love to do this and I wondering if anyone knows how to get into this area. Thanks so much.

you don't have to have a masters degree to assist in surgery. First assistant's could be a former surgical tech with formal training in assisting, a RNFA, a PA, or an NP.

I know that you can have on the job training to be a surgical np, but there are residencies out there for PAs in this area. Does anyone know if there are residencies for NPs or if any of the PA residencies will accept Nurse Practitioners?
