I am just completing a RN to BSN modular program. I am trying to decide whether the online masters programs are worth it? I am seeking opinions for anyone who has been or currently enrolled in an online masters program in nursing....

Where I reside, there is only one university that is offering a masters in nursing. I am interested in psychiatric nursing/NP.

Thanks for you input!!

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I'm doing the University of Phoenix program. I'll be done with the BSN part in May and then will go into the MSN program. I've been very happy with the education.

Thank you for your response! How long has it taken you to get your BSN online?

I will finish a modular RN to BSN program at a local college this May.That took 15 months... I am wondering how long the online master's programs are?

Thanks for your input...

Good luck as you further advance your degree!

I am half way through the Saint Louis University MSN program. I LOVE it!! However, it is stressful trying to set up clinicals. Have a good think about whether you have the resources people available who can give you the clinical hours you need. That's the ONLY glitch - I have really enjoyed it.

Specializes in CCU.

I am finishing my RN to BSN which was an online program and loved it. I am now getting started on my MSN Mental Health NP which will also be online.

Stonybrook in New York offers a variety of different masters online and I believe that Duke offers an online FNP degree.

Vanderbilt University has a distance Psych NP program with a good network of Psych NPs to aid with obtaining clinicals in certain areas. I thought it was excellent! E-mail me if you'd like additional info. Good luck!

Hey,

Seems you got a lot of responses for MSN programs and not NP. I am trying to enroll in an NP program this year and have thougth a lot about which way to go. Having met NPs who have done both I was more impressed with the programs that actually setup their clinical hours for you. In my opinion, that is the biggest difference (as even the programs that are not online offer lots of online classes) the clinical is where it really comes together. The bottomline (as told to me by a clinical instructor for a direct program) was passing your NP boards. Hence, they (this university) feel you have an advantage since they select/screen/ensure that your clinical hours are the fullest and most advantageous. For online programs, it will be up to you (with some help from your university-mqybe) to find your clinical sites and get them in order to get a good exp. The question I have is how will a university online program know what are good sites if they are 500 miles away and don't know them from Adam? On another note, the clinical sites at my local university are really on the same page of the university and many actually try to get the university to make them a clinical site (as they want to hire the NP after they are done). Bottomline is clinical sites... again it's just like undergrad pass the boards is what it all comes down to which do you feel you need? Look at cost also... funny thing about some of the online programs is thay are very $$$$ and require you to fly there several times over the course of the program. Good Luck!

I am a RN with a BSN & a BA. Looking into NP school. Where are the most job opportunities going to be nationwide? Any opinions on Creighton? Graceland's online program (Independence, Missouri)?
