Can someone explain why the salary for nursing in Salt Lake City is so low? The cost of living is relatively the same here as some larger cities on the east coast, yet they start nurses at $31 an hour compared to $21-$23 here. I see that the starting salary haven't change in 4 years. I'm a new grad nurse but I expected more moving here.

Yes.

Intermountain healthcare has a large monopoly on the state and dominates the wages.

Every RN I work with who's moved out of state had taken a large pay cut.

And HR deems it non negotiable.

Compensation could arguably be made up for in quality. (IHC)

Hardly fair
