Is it easy to get a RN job in Pennsylvania as a new graduate. I am going to move there and don't know the market there. Please give some advise. Thanks.

Hate to break it to you kids...but it SUCKS HERE!! Lots of hospitals are on hiring freezes whether they say so or not. Jobs may be easier to obtain in rural type areas but i know that the urban areas are mostly over run with applicants and GNs. This is of course, a reflection of the Central PA area but ive heard it happening statewide. I do with the 2 of you luck in your search.

The job market for RNs in western PA will be getting much worse, as hundreds of experienced RNs will be losing jobs due to the consolidation of West Penn Hospital and Allegheny General Hospital. Lousy time to be looking for a nursing job .

Does anyone think that in two years it will be better to look for a job as an RN?? I am going into school second time around and am thinking of moving to PA after I graduate since my sister lives in Gulph Mills with my little nephew. I hear all the horror stories but plan on being very proactive by trying to get a job at a hospital in my last year of school. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or suggestions????
Thanks!!!

With respect to the PA job market in two years ... your guess is as good as anyone elses.
I think the bigger question is how the Obama Administration health-care package/reform is going to affect healthcare in this country. Meaning, will there be an increase in the numbers of nurses/health-care professionals needed.
Another question, with more government control over health-care ... will nurse wages decrease, stagnate, or actually increase?
Finally, we also have to look at the 2012 election to see if health-care reform becomes a reality or gets vetoed or perpetually stalled.
Just my two cents ....
