hi. i quit my last hospital job x2 weeks ago. i was working in psych and quit before my 90 day probation. went in to get my last paycheck and she only paid me straight base pay and did not pay me my charge pay x3 days (24$) plus my weekend differential x2 days. is this legal that nurse managers can just screw us employees who quit?????...when i quit i just went to HR and handed my badge and keys because i was on probation ....:banghead:...another employee there who quit a week before me and on probation still has not been paid money that the nurse manager owe till now...
1. is it worth fighting a lost battle and aggravation? ...i know it is not a lot of money...im sure she keep all that free money for her budget.....its the principle you know..
any advice appreciated.....:banghead:

I think she owes you some money--if you worked it then she owes you--just call her everyday or go to the business office. Why did you quit?

I can answer that by reading her post. She was IN CHARGE 3 days before being off orientation? Scary stuff.

Call your state's department of labor and see what the hospital's obligations are. They probably have to give you the differentials.

This is strictly an issue for HR. Let them communicate with your former manger to get the documentation that you weren't compensated for your hours as charge nurse.
Good luck!
thanks all...reason for quitting ...long story....anyway thanks for your advice.....:redbeathe

Report this to the state wage and labor board......File a complaint and you will get paid for the time...

Check with your state labor board but don't be surprised if they don't want to get involved in an action over differential pay. If you were paid base rate for all hours worked and overtime as applicable, they will probably wash their hands of it. I don't think any state laws cover differential.
Try the HR department. As long as you can document that you were entitled to the extra pay yiou should get it unless there is some obscure policy about leaving while on probation. Unfortunately this may be one of those cases where an action is legal but morally reprehensible.

This happened to me once. I complained and was mailed a check the next pay day. Problem? Taxes equaled the amount of my shift diff....I still have the check for $0.00!
they owe me 40 bucks because charge pay per day is only 8 dollars x3 plus weekend shift is not a lot...i guess if i do get my check it will be $0....but still the principle....
thanks for your kind reply
