Nurse lying to the BON about their past

Published

Hi Guys!

I have a nurse I work with who was pursuing multiple woman at our workplace. After one of them found out he was a liar, she approached me and let me know she ran his information online and found like 3 duis. One of them was from just a couple years ago after he got his license. He hasn't renewed it yet. He must have never informed the board because we had gone to school together and he got his license right away with no issues. Anyway, I am just curious if they found out what would happen? . I am just so confused as to how he got a license so easily. Can you really have multiple duis and have a clear license with no stips or anything?

And perhaps they never happened.  Remember the old adage that "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."

If he in fact lied on his application for licensure, and this is subsequently discovered he would likely lose his license.

Again, you don't have first hand information that he does in fact have "multiple DUIs, and if so, that he "easily obtained" a "clear license with no stips or anything."

In my opinion you should run, not walk, away from this mess.

Agree with above post. I would leave this alone. This is between him and the board. If he did lie they will find out eventually. Really this is none of your business or your coworkers.

I agree. I need to just mind my own business. I just got curious. I will just leave it alone. Thanks for the replies. You are right.

I personally think that the court system should deal with DUIs, not the Boards of Nursing. As long as you are not drunk on the job, the Board of Nursing should butt out.

I hope that your friend is aware that those online background checks are not accurate? There might be another person with the same name and they pull the information from there simply because it's the same name. They do not corroborate the information to ensure that it is true. I tried one and did a background check on myself, and I was shocked at what was there. There was so much misinformation that I didn't know what to think. All these sites are interested in is your money, not the accuracy of the reports.

I agree the BON should stay out of DUIs but that won’t happen.  All health professions including nursing take DUIs very seriously.

in fact, I went to an interview recently for Global Entry (tsa precheck for international flights) and after criminal charges, the 2nd most important issue was DUIs.

A DUI is, by definition, a criminal charge/conviction. Usually non-violent, but a crime nonetheless.
