I go back and forth about where and what I'd like to be when I grow up. LOL There are days I feel like nursing is the way to go, Stability, money, doing something good for others. Then I think about the hours (12 hr shifts) the families, Doctors, liability. I cannot make a decision. Do I want to be a nurse or do hair. Im somewhat creative, but I did make-up for a while and really enjoyed it. I have young children and think I'd enjoy hair more. Can't I do both? Do hair first and if I get sick of it...got to nursing school? I was going to start out with my LPN...but I am questioning myself to much. Any advice???
FWIW, I have three kids-13, 9, and 3. For the ones in school, it's not that big of a deal. I do homework, they do homework. It's actually a nice bonding time with my son-me on my side of the bed with all my books at 8:30 (after the baby's in bed) and him on the other side with all his books.
The little guy stays at the sitter's about 4 days a week, but the amount of time varies, and it hasn't bothered him. There's still time in a day to make meals, do laundry, get kids to practices, etc.
The reason I am doing this is to give our family a little breathing room budget-wise, and if something should ever happen to my husband, I can do something nursing related til I'm a wizened old crone!
Here's how I look at it: It's only four semesters. Egads, that's no amount of time at all! And what a great amount of security at the end of it!
Whenever I go to have my hair done I always think about how difficult it must be to be on your feet for hours at a time. I simply could not do it. I also have seen several stylists just sitting around or cleaning the salon waiting for clients. Witnessed the manager sending people home one time because there was no business to go around for everybody. I also have had some people do my hair that I wouldn't go back to. I couldn't understand how anyone like that could develop a clientele. At least in nursing we typically don't have to convince customers to come to us or to give us tips. We take care of the patient in Room 3 during our shift and that is it. I think hair styling is a hard line of work to be successful at. But on the other hand, I've met people who do hair, especially coloring, on the side and do quite well at it. They just don't want to do it full time anymore.
Please choose nursing. I was a hairstylist for 11 years and unless you own your business there is really no money in it. You also rely on your tips and with the economy the way it is you will not make as much.I go back and forth about where and what I'd like to be when I grow up. oh the title made me laugh. I think you should go for the hairstylist. Because if you honestly go back & forth about nursing & hair, it seems to me, you won't have what it takes to make it through some serious stress. Do the nursing later if you want. Go make some pretty hair. I love getting my hair prettied!
