Hey everyone!
Has anyone ever had a nurse externship? What was your experience like?
How much were you paid?
I would like to do one (next summer) after I complete my first year, but I think many require 3rd year status.
Anyone know of hospitals in NY, NJ, CT, MD, VA, PA, or DC that offer externships?
Thanks in advance!

Was I the only one who found this bit of advice hilarious?

I do see the humor in it -- but I also appreciate their posting it.
I run an extern program. I am friendly, approachable, and happy to answer questions about my program. However, I am also very busy -- and get irritated when students call who haven't bothered to do ANY research at all. We put the information on the website for a reason. Students who obviously haven't even checked the site and who therefore know NOTHING about the hospital or the program sometimes ask ridiculous questions that pretty much take themselves out of the running for a position.
Doing a little research before you make that phone call is good advice.

I am doing an externship at a small rural hospital in MD right now. It's 8 weeks, CNA wages (around $10.50), rotating through four different departments, since it's such a small hospital. This is the summer between my 3rd and 4th semesters of a 4 semester ADN program. The other extern is between her 2nd and 3rd.
I absolutely love it. I've learned more in 2 1/2 weeks on the floor than I have in 3 semesters of clinicals.
