Updated:   Published

I just submitted my application to the Nurse Corps Scholarship, I just found out about this a few months ago anyone have any advice or tips? I am most worried by my SAI number. It is within the range but its on the upper end more than lower.

Apply to the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program

You are eligible if you:

  • Are a U.S. citizen (born or naturalized), a national, or a lawful permanent resident
  • Are an accepted or enrolled student in a nursing degree program at a United States accredited school of nursing

  • Don't have any federal judgment liens

Why should you apply?

If you receive an award, you'll get a monthly stipend—and they'll pay your

Did you fill out the disadvantaged forms?

No, I did not. I had seen that link for the forms in the previous screenshot,  but I did not.  I mostly described my disadvantaged background in my essay; child of The Killing Fields refugees, growing up in underserved community, homelessness twice, first generation, etc...

Specializes in Pediatrics.

I received a credit check and did not fill out disadvantage forms.

Do you mean under final review as in getting COI? did you get a COI? I wonder if I should call. I got a credit check and am still under review on the portal

All I got in this is email early August and the a credit pull on August 19th but no other email or COI. So I thought might have been my collections that was the issue. I'll try to stay optimistic. But of all things I wanted to share if it helps anyone understand how the nurse corp chooses their recipients. I'm currently working at a HPSA >14 and have been for 4 years and am a past recipient.

And I did not fill out disadvantage forms I never have I just wrote about coming from a disadvantaged background, working and volunteering with underserved as well.

To my understanding, there was no disadvantaged form. The only thing there was, was the essay to write about that.

Yes,  I didn't see one either.  The screenshot was the only time I seen it, but not in the application itself.

Hi guys I'm reading the theories and discussion and thought I would share some more information incase it helps anyone. I'm an RN and got the award for the Nurse Corps Scholarship last week! I am in an FNP program and will graduate in 2027. I have an SAI of 2701. Also, they post some of their data directly on the site from previous year awards. I'll attach a link, but they go over what percentage of those awarded are in RN, CRNA, NP, etc. programs. They mention how many applications there were, and even gender and race.

Not even 300 people got awarded, OMG. I'm real nervous now!

How many people were awarded ?

It looks like 567 people got awarded in 2022, so it staggers by each year.... Im seeing in 2020 and 2021 500+ people were admitted as well

Hopefully funding has increased.

Specializes in NICU, Pediatrics.

During the pandemic the American Rescue Plan awarded an additional $800 million dollars to the NHSC fund, totaling $1.2 billion in scholarship money. The more recent "Lower Costs, More Transparency Act" states that only $350 million dollars in funding will be available for the next two years. I'm guessing this explains the higher awards in those years as opposed to 2023 and possibly this year.
