Nurse Corps Scholarship 2018-2019

Published

Hi Everyone, I'm planning to apply for the HRSA NurseCorp Scholarship this year. I figured I would go ahead and start the next thread for this award year. I'm currently finishing up some of my prereqs and will be starting my BSN program in June. I know the application date hasn't been released yet but from what I have seen on other threads, it should be opened sometime in March/April with a deadline in May. I've also read that the prompt questions have been the same from one award year to the next so I have begun working on them as well as trying to figure out who I would like to use as recommendations. I would love to hear from all who plan to apply this year.

This is what I am wondering Jyurechko. I have even spoken directly (several times) with the case manager (or whatever technical term for the person who is assigned to you once you are awarded) to have a form updated and to answer a question about my school. I left her a voice-mail today regarding the rejection notification but so far I haven't heard back.

Hi there, I feel your pain. I am in the same boat.

They told you on the phone that they were revoking finalist status from people in no particular order aka at random?

I remember reading an allnurses forum on Nurse Corps from a few years back (maybe 2016? I don't remember), and a few people reported a similar glitch in their portal status going from "final review" to "under review". I don't remember seeing anything about whether or not it ultimately affected their award though. It might be worth looking into if this has happened before. The only reason I know of for sure that would result in no award after being identified as a finalist would be a previous default on federal loans or a change in enrollment status for your program compared to when you first applied. It's possible that there was some sort of glitch in the system?

Hey steinbeck,

I have absolutely no default on any federal loans (I have never had any federal loans) and my status did not change...Last week my status went from "under final review" to "under review."

I'm PRAYING that they messed up somehow...considering people were getting notified they were a finalist up until two days ago.

To everyone who this happened to: the women I spoke to today said that there is no specific order in which they send out contracts. I don't know if I believe that. As soon as I saw my status changed, I called and they told me it was a glitch and that the health and human services who awards was aware of the glitch. She told me at this point she would escalate and send them an email, but the only thing I could do is write a letter to find out why they took away my offer.

I was sent the finalist email on August 20th and my contract was signed on Sept. 14.

Here is the address she gave me to write a letter. I would appreciate that anyone who's contract was SIGNED and then rescinded keep us all posted. Maybe it was a major mistake?

Hi Elizabeth. I am in your shoes. I feel so tossed around on this emotional rollercoaster.

I can't find posts where individuals have said they were both notified and awarded within the last 48 hours? Can you provide me with the posts, dates, or usernames of those folks who posted that?

I am trying to figure out how they chose certain folks to revoke their finalist status from. Is it random, is it discriminatory?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Julia, I was referring to the recent post by genibby dated 24Sep (post #587 & #588). She states that she was informed they received additional money for funding the scholarship, yet we are being told that a lack of funds is why we were not chosen. Also, she was made a finalist on 24Sep as well. Great question as to how they go about rejecting / revoking and then selecting the next finalist to notify.

Best,

Elizabeth

I looked for the forum from a few years back where I saw the same issue, and I couldn't find it, but I do remember them saying that when they called after their portal went from "under final review" back to "under review", they were instructed to re-submit their W-4 and enrollment verification documents. Perhaps yours were lost in the glitch and therefore the system no longer recognized you as a finalist? It seems to have happened to too many people. I'd definitely agree that anyone else that this has happened to should write a letter!

Thanks for the information! I will be writing a letter and also post any updates should I learn of them. And I am praying for the same (that this was a MAJOR glitch!)

I spoke with them the other day . They said Jamie King is the secretary's authorized representative . We are just waiting for our participant email. No one has told me two signatures. Read the guideline packet . Everything is pretty clear that we got it. No worries!!!!

Hi Feelove1,

Did you ask Nurse Corps to send you an email transcribing this conversation you had where it said Jamie King is the secretary's authorized representative?

Hello I just received the email stating I'm a finalist i have until tomorrow to hand in my paperwork. When I read this thread I was sure I didn't win because I hadn't gotten an email yet and I saw everyone had their email so early but today I received my email :)

Hi genibby,

Did you end up receiving the award as a participant? Did you happen to ask Nurse Corps to send you a transcription of you conversation via email so you could have it in writing?

Just got notified last night that I was finalist! Got a call shortly after I received the email and my analyst received my W-4 and my enrollment verifications this morning!

Does anyone know how much the stipend is? I submitted my bank information and he informed me that I would be receiving my 4 month stipend from July 1-Now in October and I didn't even think to ask how much the stipend is?

Thanks!

Hi Savannah, Did you end up receiving the award?

I don't know about anyone else, but they did not ask me to re-submit any paperwork. Maybe this was the error which resulted in them offering people awards as late at this week? Seems like this is what happened in 2016, yet individuals who went from "under final review" back to "under review" were asked to resubmit paperwork.

If that is the case, this is SUPER not okay and I HOPE that they remediate the issue. There are too many of us who got our COI email back in August and DID NOT get an award.

This happened to me too. I was notified of being a finalist 8/20, "countersigned" 9/14. No defaults or negative marks on my credit and I am in school, and have been, full time. I am confused and rattled by the whole thing.

Please call the hotline and also write a letter! Maybe they do not realize what is happening?
