Greetings!
After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!
Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)
1 year AmeriCorps
1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents
5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)
EFC: 544
GPA: 3.9
Community service hours: 45
Location: GA
Congrats to all the recipients!I'm so bummed that I didn't get a letter. I had the credit inquiry in July and an EFC of 0 with a 3.87 GPA. I'll reapply next year, but it still hurts a little! I do hope they send out turn downs soon so I can at least have a firm answer.
Hear Hear to that!! I just want a definitive answer already.
To summarize for 2017 hopefuls that I know will binge read this thread!
I'm an ABSN student (first tier) with EFC of 0, 4.0 GPA. 13 years medical assisting experience, volunteer as an inmate escort for incarcerated women with mental health/substance abuse disorders, bringing them to 12 step meetings in the community.
Submitted application 4/18
application was due 5/5
CREDCO credit check on Experian report 7/15
Finalist email 7/26 which from what I understand was the first wave.
Submitted follow up docs on 7/27
HRSA rep consigned contract on 8/29
Participant email received 9/21
If I can offer one word of advice, just breath. This is a strenuous process and the stress level associated with it is immense. Congrats to the 2016 recipients. Thanks to all that supported each other in this process. Best of luck nurses!!!!
P.S. Read the guidance pdf. A lot!

My stats: 1year teaching English. 3.76 gpa Absn program. No experience whatsoever.
Honestly from what I've gathered from other winners, they take the letters of Rec and YOUR ESSAYS as a huge portion of your scoring. Gpa and previous experience haven't seemed to matter much.
