Greetings!
After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!
Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)
1 year AmeriCorps
1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents
5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)
EFC: 544
GPA: 3.9
Community service hours: 45
Location: GA
There is the Nurse Corp for nurses only and NHSC for NP and MD's/ dentist etc. Both are handled by dhhs. Different application but around the same deadline. Pretty much same concept. I an NP student so I applied for both. No credit check for me so I assume Im out.It is interesting that the MD students had their check done in mid june and nobody has heard yet. I have about 10% hope left but with no credit check I am 90% sure I didnt get either. Guess its applying for loan repayment when Im done.
I'm with you, no credit check so I'm have to go part time and work full time except I'm have to pay some out of pocket. It sucks when you have until Aug 22nd to change from full time to part time but may loose your chance to be a scholarship finalist because there is a chance that I could know I'm september. My sister did not know until September 30th and she was able to receive the scholarship. So hold your faith.
Hi all, new to posting. I've been stalking while we all wait to hear. NP student. EFC 0, GPA 4.0, credit check on 7/15, 15+ years working in rural health and with AHEC. I found last year's annual report from HRSA and thought you might be interested in numbers. In 2015, 124 new RN and 83 new APRN were awarded scholarships. I was hoping to find breakdown of applicants in each tier but no such luck. Still nice to see numbers. I just Google HRSA annual report nurse corp scholarship and found it that way.
Good to luck to all!

Usually I think they only get to first tier. Those numbers sound like first tier candidates to me. RNs that are full time and Master's level NP's are first tier.
Hey, DukeNP here again. For some reason I can't get in to that account with my password and I can't get it to reset. So I'm using an older account.
Yes, it's clear from the guidelines that first tier is typically the only ones funded. The question that is harder to answer is how many applicants qualify for the first tier for consideration. Since the guidelines are pretty clear that generally only applicants in the the first tier get funded, I wonder if the majority of applicants are full-time BSN and full-time NP students. I know that overall around 10% of applicants typically receive the scholarship, so that makes me wonder what % of the total applicants are considered first tier.
I am going to continue to remain optimistic that the early credit check is a good sign. I want to be positive without getting my hopes up too much though, you know? I'm already in school though and up to my eyeballs in work, so I'm just going to try to stay focused on finishing up summer term and hope that this is my reward at the end of a grueling semester.
Oh yes I've wondered that as well. It seems as though about 10% of applicants receive funding historically. Last year about 2400 applied and about 240 got an award. I wish I new how many of the applicants were first tier.
I am trying to remain optimistic as well. I was ecstatic when I saw the credit check. It does seem that a lot of credit checks were done on 7/15. So maybe they really are checking everyone. Who knows. This is maddening! lol
It is also important to keep in mind that credit checks are not free. It typically costs $30-$50 to run a credit check on an individual. If 2400 applicants applied that would mean that it would cost from $72,000 to $120,000 for the government! For those who have received checks, bear this in mind as it is likely a good thing and to simply relax.
Now I want those who have just read this post to: 1) Inhale deeply.............................................exhale deeply.............................
2) Repeat 5 times.........don't rush!!!!
3) Tell yourself that you have done everything you could have done, the rest will be as it will be.
4) Enjoy the rest of your day.
