Greetings!
After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!
Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)
1 year AmeriCorps
1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents
5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)
EFC: 544
GPA: 3.9
Community service hours: 45
Location: GA
From last year's thread:
"I believe that only Finalists get credit checks... After reading through the HRSA application review page, I believe that they finished scoring on July 15th... I don't think that they would check everyone's credit knowing who the finalists are.
BUT, applicants are not only scored but also ranked, on a scale from 1-5. I believe that this means that 1st priority applicants will receive notification first, followed 2nd priority applicants, and so on, until all funds are exhausted.
I think that this is why some of last year's applicants whose credit was checked did not receive a scholarship."--MissPatricia
I think MissPatricia has a point! This year, they finished scoring us on 7/5/16 (HRSA Review Information), and we got our credits checked on 7/15/16. I'm going to hold on to the hope that credit checks are a good sign! At least that will get me through the radio silence of the weekend.
I don't think there's any reason to freak out. The first round of emails for MDs last year were sent 10 days after the credit check, so just stay patient. I'm sure we will hear from them within the next two weeks. If these things went smoothly all the time, there would be identical wait times between credit checks and finalist notifications every year, and we know that not to be true. So, just hang in there and let them do their jobs.
Edit:
MD credit check: 7-11
MD finalist notification: 7-21
Nursing credit check: 7-28
Nursing finalist notification: 8-3
Following that logic, it might be taking them longer than usual to send notifications due to the fact that they're doing MD and Nursing finalist reviews at the same time. They're essentially shortening the NCSP wait times, so just hang in there and keep yourself busy for another week. The emails will be here before you know it.
What is the program for MDs? It's a different scholarship with different dead lines? Where did someone see that the reviews ended on 7/15? They did last year. This year the second session deadline was 7/5. I'm getting confused with people posting info from different funding sources and time sequences.
There is the Nurse Corp for nurses only and NHSC for NP and MD's/ dentist etc. Both are handled by dhhs. Different application but around the same deadline. Pretty much same concept. I an NP student so I applied for both. No credit check for me so I assume Im out. It is interesting that the MD students had their check done in mid june and nobody has heard yet. I have about 10% hope left but with no credit check I am 90% sure I didnt get either. Guess its applying for loan repayment when Im done.
