Nurse Corps Scholarship 2016-2017

Published

Greetings!

After binge reading the thread for 2015-2016, I decided it's time to start one for this year. I am a single mother opting to pursue a BSN after a post-quarter life crisis. Because I have multiple degrees, I have just about exhausted all of my financial aid options. I would like to hear from anyone applying for the scholarship. What's your story? What are your stats? Previous applicants and recipients I would like to hear your story too!

Starting at a private nursing school in May (with what little fin. aid I have left)

1 year AmeriCorps

1 year internship at group home for at-risk adolescents

5 years working with Dept. of Corrections (2.5 of which were counseling offenders)

EFC: 544

GPA: 3.9

Community service hours: 45

Location: GA

Thanks! I'm sure we all needed this í ½í²–

Yes, when I looked at last year's, it is true that the credit checks do not mean that you automatically get the scholarship. There werepeople who got the checks but didn't get the award. So as much as we got the credit checks, the only thing that truly matters is the award email. I know it sucks, especially since the hard inquiry makes the credit score drop, mine dropped from the credco check, argh. Last year, the gap between the initial credit checks & the initial award emails was a week/7 days. I'm wishing everyone the best of luck. I know we all need this.

My credit was checked on July 12th & July 19th (not sure which one is the scholarship if either of them are). That's throwing me off because my credit was checked at different times than everyone else!

-EFC of 20 (It was 1324 at the time when I submitted my application so I'm not sure if the change in EFC has any effect on anything).

-4.0 GPA

-CNA at hosptial for 3.5 years

-Lots and lots of volunteer work

From the guidelines PDF:

"Notification of Award

Individuals selected for awards will receive a Confirmation of Interest email/letter no later thanSeptember 30, 2016. To accept the award, an applicant must respond by the deadline indicatedin the Confirmation of Interest email/letter. If the applicant does not respond to the NURSECorps Scholarship Program by that deadline, the offer of award expires and will be offered to analternate. Applicants who respond by the deadline will be asked to: 1) sign the NURSE CorpsScholarship Program contract, 2) complete the online banking form for direct deposit, 3)complete the Enrollment Verification Form, 4), ) complete the W-4 form. A credit check willalso be performed on each applicant's behalf. Awards are subject to the availability of funds. Applicant award notifications will begin in late August and continue through September,2016. All applicants will be notified of their final award status no later than September 30,2016."

Credit check mentioned! Also, we have to wait until late August?? Anyone know what the 2015 PDF said about notification dates and if those were true?

Just wanted to join in...credit checked on 7/15 no news yet. Crossing my fingers. Good luck everyone!

Micheal the credit check for HRSA will be from CREDCO.

Ms Berry I think this are worst case dates in order do deter people calling them non stop. Have you read last year's posts? Most people on there were notified the first week of August.

That's amazing I work as a mental health tech now with peds And it's not as bad but there does need to be changes in this particular healthcare system. im with you on that 110%

Just to be clear, is CREDCO a third party who does hard inquiries on behalf of HRSA? My Credit Karma isn't showing any hard inquiries. It only shows the dates my credit was checked. :nailbiting:

That is correct. You can also check annualcreditreport.com for Equifax some people see it there. Don't freak out. It's still early :)

. That is correct. It is a hard inquiry (my score went down like 10 points  )

Last year the applicants had their credit checked on different dates. Its seems like everyone so far has had their credit checked on the same day this year.

my credit karma transunion score dropped 10 points, but nothing changed on my report. no pulls or anything else. How realistic is it to believe my credit was pulled but hasn't shown up on credit Karma? (Dont mind me just wishful thinking)
