Hi Everyone,
I didn't see a thread created for the 2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program yet. This will be my 3rd year applying. I'm applying as a staff RN with a HPSA score of 17. Hopefully, they open the application cycle soon.

Kourtney - same for you?
I'm still sitting with "accepted award - under final review". Nurse faculty, Tier I from a disadvantaged background with approximately DTI 210%.
I’m a staff RN, I recalculated my DTI and it’s over 200% ? I owe $200,000 with interest. Hoping it’s just a wording issue.

I have mine consolidated through the government but I also have info on all my loans referenced with schools. I will also do pslf in addition to this. All my loans are for nursing anyways I guess that’s good

1) Just got the updated email confirming what the rep told be--that they will be resending the confirmation of interest email
2) I'm RN, Tier I, DTI embarrassingly way over 250%

Same! Thank God. I was so upset earlier when the lady on the phone said it was because there were too many offers. That means there is still hope yet for everyone!
This whole program needs to be restructured. There needs to be some kind of cap. Sorry, but it makes no sense to award it to a few with super high debts instead of awarding it to a lot who have normal debt amounts. It encourages irresponsible borrowing. I do not understand that logic...

I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily irresponsible borrowing. My loan totals have doubled since I originally took them out because of interest, and I have a good credit score. I can’t imagine people who have worse credits than me and who’s interest is higher. Higher education in general is too expensive, but that’s not our fault.

I would agree- I know tension is high and everyone is stressed- HOWEVER saying that it is irresponsible borrowing is pointing blame.
I am a NP my total cost of school is 150,000- I did not borrow irresponsibility. I am African American, 1st person in my home to go to college, my parents didn’t save anything for me, I had scholarships but I had to move schools my senior year- due to my father being a terrible person (won’t get into that) so I lost all my scholarships due to switching schools. I did not qualify for much help being the only college student in school during the time. I was from a poor family. We are still poor. Even poorer now ?? I just know more things.
Everyone deserves a chance to have help- there is a reason why the programs runs the way it does-it has been around for a while.
TBH I think there is spelling errors in there but I am working on my 22nd day straight and I don’t care ??

Wow, shots fired--but I understand that you're frustrated and stressed so I'm going to try and let it go. Please don't forget that the flip side to the ratio is the INCOME as well as our facility ratings. I work in L&D at a DSH that is a critical point of care for high-risk births among a very vulnerable population. I love it but the nurses at my institution don't get paid all that well--that's part of what makes my DTI look insane.
But it's only irresponsible borrowing if you can't make ends meet and save for your future. I can do both because I have no other debt and I'm in an Income Driven Repayment plan (IDR) through doing public service loan forgiveness--which every nurse at a non-profit with federal loans is eligible for. If anything, the nurse corp program will just help my payments be more inline with all you "responsible" borrowers ?

I’m about to consolidate my loans and go with PLSF. This waiting is killing me.
