2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Published

Hi Everyone,

I didn't see a thread created for the 2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program yet. This will be my 3rd year applying. I'm applying as a staff RN with a HPSA score of 17. Hopefully, they open the application cycle soon.

It seems like everyone received finalist emails in the past two weeks, from middle July to the end of July... Feeling pretty hopeless at this point. It's not as though all applicants for this program are on the all nurses forum. So there is a good chance most of us will be endlessly waiting and hoping for nothing and emails may have already gone out. Ugh.

I say this because looking at years past mean nothing. A lady I know got awarded with a DTI of less than 50% in a past year. Ugh again. ?

@CBreezyRN I haven't seen any FNP posts for finalist for NCLRP, I have seen it for NHSC and Psych...where did you see this? OMG this suspense is killing me lol

My apologies, I can't say with 100% certainty it was for the NCLRP. I did see a staff nurse who got the finalist email with a DTI of 175. Maybe I saw the NHSC and misunderstood for the FNP.

I know, I think about the same things. However, I did see someone else post that they will continue to send awards and that she received an award 2 days before the actual last day they would tell us (last year). I also saw a poster say they didn't get notified until August. The wait is so so frustrating. This is my second year applying. Do they not tell people if someone calls that all the awards have been given?

It still seems as though they haven't awarded any NP's for the nurse corps LRP. I have seen psych, SUD, NHSC and then RN's and nurse educators being awarded for nurse corps. Maybe they wait to award NP's in the nurse corps because we represent the largest group? wishful thinking?

Which one did you get, the NHSC or Nurse Corps? And are you a primary care or psych? What is your site score and DTI? And Congrats!!!!!

SUD NHSC, primary care but I also help with substance abuse (have special training) I think my site score is 19 or 17, don't know DTI.

Most NPs were not awarded early on for NCLRP. They usually came after everyone else. At least this was my experience when I was awarded in 2017. During that year, most NPs started posting early to mid August. Once they started awarding it was in huge bulks.

So fret not, ya'll. Thanks for that info!

I like your outlook!

Specializes in Tele, Cancer Cert.

I have a stomach ulcer over this. I am hoping the theory of awarding later for FNP is right .

That is kind of weird considering I thought the most of the funds go to them...at least from the app information.

To figure DTI, are you just doing base salary and student loan balance? I'm curious as well to what the DTIs are that have received awards from the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment. Those few I have seen get an award were definitely Tier 1 based on the scores they posted, but majority of awards I have seen people post about were either FNP or DTI >200%. I am impatiently waiting for an answer as well! ? I think I am around 113%, Tier 1, so I am doubtful I even get anything.

Yeah but only the loans applicable to my nursing degree. Any that resulted in another degree don’t apply, and I think they don’t like consolidated loans...

Honestly, it makes perfect sense. It's easier to get smaller groups out of the way. Theoretically, I would think it would take longer to go through a larger pool of applicants to confirm information and arrange them based on DTI once they have been tiered.
