If you need a job or are tired of the low wages that you have been receiving I stingily suggest looking into the North. There is plenty of jobs, the wages are higher, and the pace of life is a lot slower. It is a different way of life some people love it and others cannot stand it. IF you do not like small towns and small communities look into Yukon Whitehorse.

Yes I do live in the north. I am moving to Yukon Whitehorse next week. It does not matter if you are a LPN or RN there is plenty of work for both.

I've considered Whitehorse, and I may still go up there at some point. I'm not keen on rural life and I am living it now, but I'm also not keen on working casual or temp in a city for years either.

There will be an adjustment period, but you'll learn a lot and get ahead financially. I hope it works out for you.

This is true. My sisters friend is a newish RN and after she finished school she was offered a job right away. She worked at that position for about a year and then took to teaching at the local community college. Now she flies in and out of town all of the time as she works up North I believe in The Yukon. She makes buckets of $ as a result. She is a single girl and was able to buy her own home alone in under a year working there (and if you live in th GTA you know home ownership is very expensive). If that option is still available after I am finished nursing school, I will be heading up there to make some good cash and to help out.

Congrats on your job. I work in a remote fly in community in Ontario. I am one of the few northern nurses on the board so thats y i was curious to see another.

Yukon is a bit touristy for my liking but who know i may end up there one day. I have a few friends who just went to dawson city.

I have been doing this long enough that if you go to remote areas and you work for te money you will not make it. I have seen mNy nurses come and go over the last 2 yrs. most nurses who do it for money do it through agency.

Yukon is more expensive than NWT because of the touristy aspect. It is very expensive to live there. Food is expensive. I do not even flinch when i pay $10 for a package of bacon now. If you go agency your cost of living is better because you are there pt and your meals housing etc depending on agency are covered.

Its not a real money maker for LPNs. RNs fair better but in remote areas you do waaaaay more. Higher stress, less free time etc. Whitehorse is a lot like any other smaller city down south.
