I am also taking Research starting November 3rd. I am taking it alone, though. After reading all the horror stories, I wanted to be able to devote the time to it in order to maximize the probability of maintaining my 4.0. lol

Op, what do you mean? Please elaborate. Do you mean you have to research about vulnerable populations?
They are two different classes. I assume she will be taking it at the same time as Research.
Yes they are two different classes. I had them set up separately but UTA screwed up my fin aid and mad me drop me first class. I really wasn't happy. After this sems i only have two classes left then I'm done and I couldn't push it back or i wouldnt get my fin aid anymore. I'm seriously hoping vul pop isn't too insane... :/

Vulnerable Populations isn't too bad. You'll do a lot of research on your own community. The assignments are long and involve a lot of writing. In the assignments be prepared to answer every single question and hit every point on the rubric, even if you think it's redundant because you answered it a section back, even if you think you don't need to because the answer is implied or glaringly obvious.
Research is a lot of work. When I took it in 2013, 70% of the grade are based on group work (groups are assigned randomly). 30% are what you can earn yourself from the quizzes. Go to all of the online office hours, because you will receive a lot of helpful information about the assignments.

I took both Research and vulnerable populations together. I made an A in vulnerable populations and an B in research. Research wasn't bad, but you are placed in a group and your grade is based on the group work as a whole. Therefore if you have a good group then your grade will be good.

I'm in the research class 11/3
What worries me are the quizzes I hate not knowing what to study when there is so much info.
