Wondering if anybody here has been successful in attaining hours with a surgical preceptor? How did you go about it? I'm wanting to spend time in the OR learning about surgical procedures. It seems so intriguing and foreign to me, a bedside nurse.

I would suggest talking with the surgeons rounding in your unit (assuming you take care of surgical patients) and asking if they would allow you to observe. Once in the OR, you'll have the opportunity to "network" and potentially secure a preceptor if your interested in doing more than just observing.
Thank you. I actually have thought about making an appt. with one of the surgeons about spending clinical hours with them. Never hurts to ask!
