NP job intervew, need some help

Specializes in Cardiology.

Hi folks, I have an interview for a cardiac NP position with an interventional cardiologist who also does vascular surgery. I just gave him my resume yesterday and tomorrow is my interview. He asked me about being on call, hourly work week, etc. He said that he just started working on his own 2 months ago and is in the process of hiring another cardiologist. His office is extremely busy at the moment. He wants me to work a 5 day work week and I would be salaried. I told him I really don't want to work weekends. He seemed ok with that.

I am really nervous about this interview. This is my first NP interview. I am supposed to graduate this July. I was wondering if I could get some advice as far as knowing what to address, what questions to ask, etc.

I am worried about maybe taking on a position too soon and closing myself off to other opportunities. But, on the other hand, with the economy the way it is, I feel like I should be grateful to have an interview. Also, this is so close to home, 10 minutes to be exact and a great location to work in!

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Specializes in family, internal, pediatric.

What specialty track are you in? If adult, cardiac would be a good choice. If family, you will be limiting yourself on all the other disease/treatment you have learned. A solid foundation of HTN, DM, thyroid, etc. would be beneficial to you in all future employment.

I would discuss the weekend/other call thoroughly and get it in writing if you accept the position. Usually cardiology are long hours and pt need to be seen when they are in the hospital. Would the position include hospital rounds as well?

Most MDs like to have written contracts with NPs. This could spell out days/hours/benefits. Make sure you research the salaries in the area. Advance for NP Journal puts out a salary survery Q2Y.

Good luck

I am almost done with my FNP program and This is a job I would love! My school doesn't have an adult program.....

Plan out all your questions -search the past threads or stickies there have been many great interview questions posted in the past.

Good Luck! I am a little jealous!
