Hello,
I am wondering if anyone has experience starting their own independent NP practice without a supervising MD. I am wondering what type of malpractice insurance is appropriate, etc.
Thank you!

You'll need a policy that specifically covers your business operations, not just a personal policy. See what various companies can offer you. You'll need a general policy that covers business issues too (like slip, trip, and fall as well as other run of the mill business litigation issues), not just your malpractice stuff. Get a good nurse attorney who guide you in all this set up.
