Not enough money for MCI

Published

Hey guys. Im feeling a little stressed out. I had my appt. with finanical aid yesterday and I got all the money for school except $9,984. So I was told by the school they i would have to apply for a private loan to get the necessary funds. Well in my situation my credit is not that good, and I can't find anyone to cosign for me.:banghead: No one ever wants to put there name or credit on the line. (at least not for the people i know) I am looking to attend the day program for LPN. So I wanted to know if anyone knew some places i could look into getting some funds for school that are not really credit based. Or if anyone ran into this same problem at MCI and what did they do. MCI is kind of expensive it going to cost 23,900 to get my LPN. I don't want to give up because my education is important to me. Please help.

Why are you looking to spend over $23K on an LPN when there are local ADN programs that are cheaper? You could enroll in one of those programs and take 1 or 2 courses at a time if needed while getting your pre-reqs done. That would enable you to have a job in the meantime to support yourself.

You might also be able to arrange with a local hospital to pay for your RN education in return for an agreement to work for them after graduation. There are options. Have you explored all of them? I'm sure there are also other LPN programs around -- and some of them are probably cheaper.

I can't imagine spending that much money on an LPN. LPN's are honorable people who do important work. I don't mean to insult them in any way. I just wouldn't pay that much money for the education when cheaper alternatives exist.

Hi thanks for the info. I have finished all pre-reqs at TCC, and Im currently waiting to reapply into the program at the end of this spring semester. I have also thought about going to Sentara School but I don't know how much that is going to cost as well because I would be more than to work for them after graduation since I already work for sentara. (But I don't work in any clinical setting). I am just so tired of waiting. Have you heard anything about Tidewater Tech. maybe I should look into that school. With any luck and prayers, i can just stay at TCC and get my RN.

Hi Butterfly82....I would check into someother programs if I were you. VA Beach technical education center around $5000 (day/evening), Portsmouth Public schools has a program around $2400, Obici still has there LPN program not sure of price. Inexpensive day time only. Norfolk has a vo-tech program $5000-7000 I think. Hamptons vo-tech (which I'm attending) $8000. Schools are here but you have to find one that fits your needs. I hope that helps you. Let me know If I can give more information.

Have a good day all!

That happened to me last year! I think I may have filled out my FAFSA wrong now that I look at it because the EFC was so much higher than the year before and this current school year. I didn't get approved for a private loan to cover the rest of the tuition. I've corrected my FAFSA for this year so hopefully I'll be approved for more money. This year, instead of applying to MCI again, I applied to the Virginia Beach School of Practical Nursing (supported by the Va Beach school system). I'm just waiting to hear back from them. Definitely check into the school system supported practical nursing programs for each city. The Va Beach program is under $4800.00 for 18 months. The only problem is my husband is military so I'm in a time crunch which makes the 12 month program at MCI so tempting... I just can't stand the thought of paying almost $24,000!

Butterfly82, I just reread your thread. I also work for Sentara and I qualified for the College Access Schorlarship and they pay up to $10,000 dollars :yeah:+ you can also apply for the promissary(asp?) note or tuition assistance. Me personally, I think you really need to do more research and find another school. Tidewater Tech is no better than MCI or VCI. Those schools charge you too much money when you can simple attend a tech school or local hospital to receive your training. Sentara no longer offers the LPN just RN. I beleive the RN program @ Sentara is under $11,000 day time only. Do your research don't get suckered into being in debt when you can find a cheaper and better school to attend.

Good luck to you.
