I was at the VA with 12 hour clinicals and I loved it because it was just one day and I was done. I did have a day in between lecture class and clinicals so I don't know if I would like it if I had to go to lecture the next day. I did go to work the day after clinicals and I guess that wasn't too bad. For the most part I liked the VA but the only thing that kept me from truly enjoying it was the heat in the hospital. They say they keep the air as warm as they can get it because elderly are the majority of the population there and they tend to complain if it's too chilly. I came home sweating up a storm! UGH! That's the only bad thing about the VA - or at least the department I was in. I know that's a bad reason but I am a big person on temperature and I just can't function if it's too hot.

I also recommend if you need to wear support hose to wear thigh high support hose instead of the full support hose. It was so uncomfortable at the end of the day. I purchased just thigh high support hose and it was a lot better. There is this young girl in my class and I asked her if she wears support hose and she replied, "NO! I'm not an old lady" lol....I'm 23 and I LOVE support hose lol.

At EC exams were on our own time. On Mondays we would pick a time from 7am-2pm to take the test. I take test 5 tomorrow at 7am!!

BTW, if H-B is who I think it is then I will tell you she is a really good teacher. She highly believes in students being adults and treats them as such. She has expectations of her students and you can live up to them just by being the person you already are- responsible, caring, and hard-working. She was at EC this past semester but I think I did hear she was moving to NL. She was in charge of the SNA at EC. I might not be talking about the same person you're thinking of but how many H-Bs do you run across in a lifetime? lol

Wow, Allison. Thanks so much!

Yes, there's probably not too many H-B's at NLC & EC. :chuckle We'll just say misspelled naughty word as a "colorful" description. :lol2:

My thoughts were this:

1) I live in in the Arlington/Mansfield area wayyyyyyyy away from 75 or 635. Travel time would bite, especially on the way home at 3:15!

2) I could study all day Monday & Friday, after lecture on Wednesday, and after skills lab on Thursday. Then, I could do last minute reviewing after I get home from clinical on Tuesdays, and/or look over the next day's lecture material a little more.

Now, I'll add this: I am ALWAYS freezing in hospitals! :chuckle Actually, PRESBY (6th floor) was hot too. I brought a little sweater jacket the other day thinking it would be cold, omg....it was hot! I was surprised!

As for the :chuckle little missy....she'll regret it 20 yeas from now! :uhoh3:

Something else...... On my schedule, it says H-B on the first column for Instructor, but the J is actually under the clinical information.

All the rest have the same instructor name in the first column as the actually clinical days.

Anyone understand this?

AND......GOOD LUCK ON TEST 5!!!!!! (Everyone!)

I don't.

Our lecture tests were during regular lecture time because we had paper and pencil tests. It may changes if NL starts using computers.

Katie

I went to Mesquite Community for my clinical and had Stanfield. I don't think she teaches at NL though. If you want to know about this hospital though, I'll PM you. I just don't think you want to go there since it is so far from you.

Also are you talking about the teacher for clinical and teacher for skills lab? On our schedule there was a teacher for our actual clinical class which is where we went to the hospital and then there was another teacher who did skills labs and of course the teacher who does lectures. Is this what you were referring to? I didn't understand why we had a different instructor for our skills lab and clinical.

lalajenn, I must have had you and Allison mixed up. Mesquite isn't even one of our choices, at least not on the preliminary schedule from the acceptance packet.

For the VA choice, it has one teacher's name on the first column, but a different name under the clinical day. The clinical day name is the same as the lecture instructor. Maybe it's what you explained, or a typo because the instructor, H-B, has just moved over to NL.

Maybe "J" is only doing lectures now.

We had a Ms. J. doing lectures and clinicals at RHD this semester. I think she will be teaching again.

Actually, one of our choices is Charlton Methodist, and is basically at 67 & 20. (Anyone lurking know anything about this hospital?) :D

Anyone know about Fields? (Female or Male?) PLEASE, Email/PM me if there is reason to STAY AWAY! :chuckle

Everyone wants a great clinical instructor.

Mr. M's clinical site is just so far away, and I'd be passing up Charlton Methodist & the VA on the way to Presby. :selfbonk:

I really do appreciate all of your help, and I'm sure there are, or will be other 1. semester students wanting this info as well! :balloons:

Fun,

Learn all you can about the instructors at NL because I can already tell you that I will be wanting to know in the Spring after you have completed semester 1. ;)

:chuckle Amy....I'll keep my eyes and ears open. :)

I don't like push-over instructors, but I don't want to be in tears everyday either. So, I'm trying to figure out my choices 1 through 5.

Katie, how did they give you the numbers to decide who gets to choose their clinical sites first at NL? Do you get a mixed up number as you walk in? Like maybe the first person could end up with #50? (I think that's pretty fair, even though it may not be a happy thing.) lol

Fun,

I just sent you a PM. It's something that might help you out.
