North Lake/El Centro - Fall '06!

Published

Congrats to all of us that were accepted to the nursing program at either campus for Fall '06!!!!

:balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons: :balloons:

I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!

Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:

Good luck to everyone!

My last GOVT test is on the 11th. Then, I am free until my STATS class starts in July (Summer-II).

As far as the insurance paying for it, it all depends on your plan, but usually it does. Some insurance policies exclude adult immunizations, so you'll have to find out from your policy. If not, remember that ECC gives them for a reduced price.

I believe you have to have at least 2, but are supposed to have all three HepB before starting the program.

Also, the PPD is to be administered & checked 48 hours later, so make sure you don't wait until the last application day to get your PPD done. :)

Amy, sorry I don't know about the transcript. It seems like that was addressed during the information session, but it's been a year since I went to one. :chuckle

Good luck on your GOVT test, Fun!!

We are only required to have two of the Hep shots when we apply. Hopefully my insurance will be the good kind and cover it then :D

When I went to the info session, she said that we could get a copy of our transcripts from DCCCD for our application packets. But, we had to get it -- they won't do it. You also need course descriptions for every class you took somewhere else that you want to apply to your nursing degree if it was taken outside of DCCCD. I need to make a ToDo list!

Fun,

Good luck on your Govt. final. I am going to attend the May 15 info. session at El Centro. I'm feeling like you were...I'm just getting excited. I do really feel like I am going to make it. I paid for my 1st 2 Hep. shots - I had no idea my insurance might have covered these. I'll check at EC when I go for the info. session and see how much the rest of the immunizations will cost me. I guess I should make a list of questions to ask at the info. session since I am the type of person who always has 1,000 questions.

Hello everybody, gauge14iv, Funnie

I have a pal wanting to attend Northlake She CLEP'd College Algebra and we are not sure how that will affect her chances in the admissions process. Anybody got in with CLEP algebra ?

HELP!

Hi Sunny! Did you get into that other program?

As far as the CLEP, it should go as 'it's passed', but I'm not sure about the ranking. Your friend should probably go to an info session. I wish I could help you out.

How'd your semester go?

I take my last GOVT exam Thursday (thanks for the well wishes everyone), have 2 months to study dosage calculations & test taking strategies, etc, and then start STATS on July 12th. :uhoh21:

Funnie, you are a glutton for punishment! STATS during Summer II PLUS studying dosage calculations, test taking strategies & reading the 60 books you will buy as "reference material"?

You are just like me. I have a heap of books on my Amazon and half.com wishlist waiting for them to go on sale. I have to sit on my hands to keep from purchasing too many. I won a free subscription to NURSING 2006 and I'm loving it. I am hoping I win one to Nursing Made Easy. Is that one good?

My semester was fairly easy. I was working on research for the MPH classes so I had a light load.

I'm hoping to have the dosage calculations down pat before July 12th. :chuckle I've already started reviewing online and know most of the conversions & abbreviations from medical assisting, So that part is mainly review. I also ordered Dimensional Analysis For Meds by Anna M. Curren ....just in case I need a booster for that. :lol2: (If I have to do calculations the old way for exams, I'm still going to double check my answers using dimensional analysis before turning in my test!) .....I guess taking chemistry was good for something.....taught me dimensional analysis. :chuckle

Hey, being a book hog isn't that bad. I figure I'll get a few good pointers from each if nothing else, or have them for future reference/paper writing, etc. :chuckle

That's cool that you won a free subscription.:balloons: I have just glanced through the magazines so far...pretty much just racking those up for future use. My time has been used up reading Nutrition, History 2 & Government 2 this past semester. :uhoh3:

I didn't get a book list in my packet, that I remember. Hmmmmmm......gonna have to look.

I went to the website but the info seemed old. Someone remind me again. Is there still a five year time limit on Math and Science classes?

Only on science. The math limitation has been lifted. :)

I thought so. Thanks Fun

Well, I pulled it off and made my 4.0 this semester, so that is a relief. Hopefully I can start right behind ya'll :)

I also went to get my physical yesterday. My dr office set it up like an office visit instead of charging me for a physical. So, I just had to pay my co-pay and pay for the TB test (insurance wouldn't cover that). But, insurance is covering my Hep B, Tetorifice, and titer tests for the MMR and chicken pox. My arms hurt! :)

Does anyone know if you have to get your second Hep B shot 1 month after? Can I wait 6 weeks?

Did they take a urine sample at yours, Fun?

Specializes in ICU, ER, HH, NICU, now FNP.

6 weeks will work - 1 month is ideal - but 6 weeks will work too. If you are going out of town or something - you could get it a few days early even.
