UNC ABSN applicants - Spring 2014

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi everyone,

I wanted to start a thread for those of us applying for UNC's ABSN program starting in January 2014. There is another thread on here, but it looks like it's only about Duke's applicant pool. I know the application isn't due until August 10th, but when I applied to Duke for the fall I found talking to others in the same situation helped with my nerves! :)

I hope everyone's application is going well so far! Let's keep each other updated on how things are going throughout the process and share information as we go. Good luck to everyone!!

Hi, I started a threat on this just a few posts down...but good luck to you! Are you in or out of state?

Hi All!

I am applying to UNC's ABSN and am glad you started a more specific thread.

Planning on submitting my application this upcoming week once I get the final grade for my last pre-req.

Excited and nervous! Good luck to you all!

@mrsbaze did you end up getting into Duke but are now applying to UNC's program? Not trying to be nosey, but am curious of your reasoning for not picking Duke if that is the case, as I am applying to both of those programs and am trying to gain all the information I can. I know everyones situation is different!

@TarheelGirlx3 - Good luck to you as well! Sorry I missed your other post, I'm still learning my way around this website! I am in-state and live pretty close to Chapel Hill. Are you also in-state?

@Rthom09 - I am also waiting on my final grade for my last pre-req...hopefully, I'll have everything in by late next week! It's always scary to finally turn it all in! To answer your question about Duke, I did apply and got accepted for the fall. However, after the hospital discontinued the tuition reimbursement program, financially it was not an option for me to go there. It's a great program and I know people who are starting there this fall that are super excited! For me, I could not spend that much money on another degree; however, I encourage you to leave all of your options open and choose the school that works best for you! I don't think you can go wrong with Duke or UNC - they both have excellent programs! Good luck to you as well!

I am also instate, just graduated from UNC in May...hopefully going back in January! Haha...I did ask someone from admissions earlier this week the average GPA of accepted students, and she said it was in the 3.4-3.6 range. My cumulative GPA from UNC was a 3.396, and a 3.41 if you add in transfer credits from the community college courses from high school. However, my pre-req GPA for the nursing school is a 3.9...hoping this makes a huge difference! I submitted yesterday and waiting 12+ weeks is going to kill me! Good luck everyone!

You'll already know all the cool hang-out and study spots when you get in this time around. And yes, the wait is going to feel like forever!

I'm an "old lady" compared to you - I graduated with my Bachelor's in 2006! :) Congrats on finishing up this May and enjoy your time off before starting back!

@TarHellGirlx3 @MrsBaze Did y'all go ahead and fill out the residency form? I was a little unsure if we did that prior to or after our admissions decisions were given and am unsure if it is considered part of/linked to our application

Thanks!

I have not filled out the residency form. Where did you find it? I didn't see anything about it in the application instructions, so maybe we don't have to fill it out yet...but you could send an email to the SON and ask just to be sure! If you do, let us know what they say. :)

I also didn't see anything about that. If you email someone could you let us know what they say? Thanks!

@MrsBaze @TarHeelGirlx3 Absolutely! Will send the e-mail tomorrow or friday, so will get back with you all Monday at the latest!

@MrsBaze @TarHeelGirlx3 Sorry it took me so long to get back with y'all! On my connect Carolina portal it listed a request to complete a residency form under my To-do list. This may have been because I recently became a resident of the state, so my guess is that if it was not listed under your to-do list you are fine!
