Thoughts on PCMH (now Vidant Medical Center)

U.S.A. North Carolina

Does anybody have any input about working as an RN at Pitt Memorial in Greenville? I've been interested in working there but attend school in another part of the state and have not been within Pitt before. Non-nursing employees of the hospital have told me it is a great place to work, but I do realize that nursing is unlike any other job. I'm particularly interested in information about ER and Heart Institute, but any input is welcomed.

One of my main concerns is that the hospital is too big, and I'll just be a number in an endless sea of nurses. I will be a new grad this summer, and I have applied to their residency program.

Thanks!

Hey TIGERLILIE,

This is my first time using this site. I noticed we are both out of state new grads looking into Pitt's residency! My interview is on the third of December! I am also super nervous. Which units are you interviewing for? I am interviewing for the MICU and CIU. Did you have a phone interview with the managers first? I wasn't told that the in-person interview was going to be a "shadow" too. Sounds like the staff there are really awesome though. Good luck to you!!!:D

I interviewd for MIU ( Medical Step-Down ICU). Yes, I had a phone interview first and then shadow the unit, which help me get a feel of the enviornment. The hospital is huge , but very inviting. Absolutely, felt connected. Long story short, I was offer the position and I am still soaking up the news. I am so grateful for this opportunity. Wish you the best on your interview:yeah:-- stay confident and go in there with an open mind. It helped me:D

What exactly are PCMH rates for new grads (especially ICU if anyone has this info), and do they offer proper benefits? I'd like to work there, as it's close to my home, but I've herd about $20 an hour and 8 days of vocation per year... How true is that?

Hi Anatasia83,

They take care of the nurses and benefits shows as well. Check out their website. Word of advice let them ( once your offer a position) tell you about payment rate for new grads and vacation time:). Wish you the best on your journey:jester:.

So glad you got it! I got an offer from the Medical ICU! I am also still soaking it in. I guess we will be in classes together :). Did you get your offer in writing yet? I just got the phone call Monday. I hope to have it all on paper soon. It is going to be a big move, but it will be so worth it :D Congratulations, and I look forward to meeting you in class next Feb.

Hi nathRN,

The phone interview was decent. However, I have heard people had interview with two people on the phone. However, it is not bad at all. Just make sure you listen and ask question. Never worked their before, I went down to shadow the unit and it was beautiful, but very big. Wish you the best!!!! You got this!!!:yelclap:

Hello nathRN,

The manager that called me was very friendly on the phone. I was still very nervous though. Be prepared for clinical scenario questions too. Best of luck! Are you a new grad or out of state?

Erin

Sorry I just figured out how to check mail with this site :) I got on the medical icu. Not the step down unit. My private e-mail is [email protected]. I check that one everyday if you want to write. This site won't let me send you a private message b/c I'm not an "active member." I'm really excited too and freaked out. I can't believe you are planning a wedding too! I'm so stressed trying to pack up and fix up my house to rent it out. I hope your friend landed the gig! It took a week to get my letter, but the human resources guy called me that Monday and asked what unit I preferred. I don't know if that means I got an offer from both or if he was just curious if I wanted the ICU more. Would have been really embarrassing if I had said the other unit and didn't get it. I hope we get great preceptors! I want to write more, but I got to go paint a bathroom :( take care ttyl

I was wondering if anyone can tell me the actual start date for PCMH's new grad residency program 2012? I had a phone interview last friday (01/20/2012) and the manager told me that someone would be in contact with me to tell me about the next phase and answer any specific questions I had such as start date? You guys have talked about shadowing and face-to-face interviews. I'm a little worried because I'm not sure if I'm going to have enough time to get through all of those steps if the residency starts the first week of March. I passed NCLEX 01/23/2012 and if they are going to offer me a spot I think i need to start worrying about endorsing a license to NC since I presently live in Illinois. I'm so confused. Any feedback or information would be much appreciated!! Congratulations to everyone who has received a formal offer!

TheChair I believe it starts March 5th. I am a newgrad too and live out of state. I had my phone interview now I have to go out there for a face to face interview/ shadow day. Best of luck to you.

nathRN, im flying out for a site visit and face to face as well! When are you headed out? ...if you don't mind me asking :)
