South Carolina vs. North Carolina

Hey there, I will be finishing nursing school soon and was looking to either move to south carolina or north carolina. I was wondering if anyone had insight of better job market, better pay etc.. For RN

I'm not super familiar with South Carolina's market for registered nurses, but I if I had to choose one, I would select North Carolina. It's home to some wonderful healthcare systems and I know few nurses here who have had difficulty finding a job. However, I think it really depends on what area(s) you are thinking of moving to. Honestly? I am not a nurse, but as overall job market, I would move to NC. I would suggest Charlotte, or the Triangle area. Just search NC Triangle and you should find information. Search through Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Winston-Salem. Any of those places should be great, but I am partial to Raleigh. lol The Triangle in NC is home to one of the largest research triangles in the world.

You could also post in the city-data forum. Do a search for "city-data forum" and you will find forums for SC and NC. Good luck!

I'm also partial to Raleigh - I live closer to Wilmington, but Raleigh will always be my first love. In Raleigh, you would be near WakeMed, Rex, Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, and other hospitals. Plus it's just a great place to live in general - lots of things to do and see. I'm not familiar with Charlotte area, though. You'll find the cost of living is much lower here than in other states! Because of this, your dollar will stretch a bit further. :)

I have 8 years exp as an RN, mostly in post-op. What is the yearly salaries like in NC? I live in upstate NY, so I am sure that the cost of living here is higher, just curious about pay. Thanks!!

I also moved from Upstate NY. I had no problem getting a job in the Triangle area with an Associates. Not many hospitals require BSN, might prefer it, but not require. With your 8 years experience you shouldn't have a problem. Cost of living here is comparable to Upstate NY. Lower taxes and lower gas, higher in a few things. I was making $27.50 at Duke with same number of years experience.
