Fall 2018 Wake Tech Nursing

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

I have followed previous threads related to applying to Wake Tech's competitive nursing program. I will be applying by January 31 in hopes of starting their nursing program in the fall of 2018. I am currently finishing prerequisites and will be taking the TEAS in January. I hope to be in the 162 point range if I complete my current courses with A's (bio 169 and hum 115) and get top scores on the TEAS (several ifs!).

Anyone else want want to keep up a dialogue as we approach the application deadline? I'd also love to hear from folks on alternate nursing programs and comparisons to the Wake Tech curriculum if anyone has some info to offer.

I have heard they are changing the point structure after this application submission and am also curious if anyone has solid info on that.

Let's get the conversation started!

Newgirl87,

Are the morning and afternoon labs and clinicals randomly assigned or are folks allowed to give preferences? Thanks!

They pick totally random, only about 16 people are on evening clinical, and afternoon lab is split in half between everyone.

I don't know why I didn't think to ask this but where are clinicals? Is everyone at the same place (I'm assuming a hospital)? Do you know how many are in the program vs. how many applied? Was that information ever discussed - maybe at orientation? I'm sorry. If I kept going, I'd have a million questions!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to go ahead and join this conversation since we are (hopefully) going to receive our decisions in the next few weeks. Has anyone heard anything else since the last update on here?

I have and I forgot to post something. Sorry about that! Last Friday, March 23, I sent an email to Beth Watkins to ask if she would be my advisor as I heard she was really THE advisor to have if you're on the nursing path. I got an auto reply that she was out of the office until mid-April... so no luck there. So on a whim, I called student services and asked if there was anyone that could give me an update without having to drive there and meet with someone.

She told me that they had just gotten word that morning that it would be THREE MORE WEEKS before letters would go out to applicants. They're killing me here! Jeesh! Three weeks from that day is Friday, April 13. So maybe they'll go out sometime that week.

Once acceptance/waitlist letters are mailed out and received, would anybody be interested in forming a FB group for our graduating class? I was in the class that started in January 2018 and had to drop out due to a medical issue I had to have resolved. Someone in that class had created a FB group and it was a great way to exchange information.

That would be great! I wonder when orientation will be this year.

A friend of mine entered the program Fall 2017. If I remember correctly, for the 2017 Fall entry, their orientation was in May.

I'm in for a Facebook group (although with all the news this week I was kind of thinking about deleting my account, haha!)! But I do think it would be super helpful for exchanging information, so, let's do it!

I can't believe it's going to be another 3 weeks... I'm kicking myself for not taking a class this semester, just to stay busy and connected! I'm making myself crazy watching for the mailman every day. But at least we know something and I can stop that nonsense for a while!

Also, I REALLY wish there was a way to find out the orientation date now - I'm trying to plan one really great vacation for myself and my husband since I know the next 2 years will be nuts, but obviously don't want any potential conflicts!! I keep looking back at old threads trying to make educated guesses... but I'm just not willing to make that kind of commitment on a guess! Like my husband said, it would really stink for him to have to go on vacation by himself ;)

Did you get the Med Calc book yet? You can start studying that...

Oh, holy crap... I just called to see if I could find out the orientation date and was told the letters were mailed today to applicants!! GULP. And yes, I'm up for a FB group although I was thinking about deleting my account as well, lol. So watch your mailbox... I'm so nervous.

And if y'all don't know about it, you can sign up for "informed delivery" with usps.com and each morning you can see B&W pictures of the mail you're going to get that day. I actually don't know if that's better or worse! But I did sign up for it and I get an email every day of what's coming that afternoon.

Last but not least, what is the Med Calc book? I hate to admit I don't know -- but I don't know.

If the letters were mailed today, it could be Friday or Saturday before you get yours...so don't fret if you don't have yours tomorrow. I will definitely check my mail anxiously :)

The med calc book is the book you'll use to learn dosage calculation. We had to buy (new or used, doesn't matter): Calculating Drug Dosages by Sandra Luz Martines de Castillo.

There is a lot of info if you go to Blackboard and search under courses for: Gateway to Success. It gives you a glimpse into the NUR 111 course.
