ABSN Duke Fall 2010

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi All!

I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??:yeah:

Looks like we got in trouble. You know us crazy Duke kids, buch of hell raisers haha.

I hope we get a denial letter if we don't get in, seems the right thing to do...though none of us are going to have to worry about that right!?

In trouble already. What a rowdy cohort we'll turn out to be, huh?

Sorry guys, didn't mean to turn it negative. OF COURSE we'll all get in. :clpty:

I just wasn't sure how they'll handle OTHER applicants who aren't invited to interview. I suppose if somebody is worried about their interview status, they could always call *someone at Duke* and ask. Personally, I'm busy waiting on one straggling letter of recommendation :hdvwl: It'll be down to the wire b/c of the holiday next week, so I won't have much time to worry about whether or not I get to interview.

I don't know much about Duke Days, but I thought the interviews were individual rather than group...

Hi ya'll!

I'm going to join your thread.

After I submitted my application online, I followed up with an email.... Was told that we would hear about interviews "closer to the December 1st deadline." I got the impression that they would begin to review the applications a little before the deadline- and everyone would be notified regardless of the outcome.

:twocents:

Hi Gals and welcome GenevaMarie!

I would love to hear more about the interview process from some of those who are now in the program. I've heard people not having time to finish ect but I'm not sure what that is all about. Also what are Duke Days?

I too am awaiting a single letter. When I talked to * a certian someone* at Duke, she told me to go ahead and send everything in and let them know I was awaiting a final letter, and the reason it will be coming at a later time.

Anyone know how many applicants they have vs. how many are accepted? I'm just so ready for us all to get in and get going!!!

Maryash79-

For some reason I'm thinking it's about 200 applicants for approximately 75 spots. :heartbeat:redbeathe

Can't recall the exact source of that tidbit... but it's a pretty nice ratio compared to the regular undergraduate admission... Approx 27,000 applicants for like, 1,400 spots. geez.

Did anyone else submit their app online?

Yep, I submitted my application online at the beginning of the month. These next few months are going to seem to take forever because of the admissions/interview/waiting for a decision process!

I hope the 200 applicants for 75 spots sounds like pretty good odd, I am crossing my fingers of all we fine ladies applying.:yeah:

I submited my application online about 2 weeks ago and sent my transcripts and 2 out of 3 letters. The woman who was doing my 3rd rec had a death in the family so I am scrambling to get a letter as the moments are ticking away. I'm freaking out juuuuuuust a little.

Does anyone know if Duke has rolling admissions or do they start to review after the Dec 1 deadline? I would hate to think of other people taking *our* spots hahaha, jk.

Hope everyone is having a happy Wednesday. Its cold and rainy here in Asheville...blah.

No, the ABSN program doesn't do rolling admission (I believe most or all of the other programs do), so all the applicants will get a fair shot at an interview.

I spoke to admissions, and they said it's not rolling admissions for the ABSN. It's a typo on their website and she thinks it's been corrected...

Also, I was told it was closer to 1 in 3 get interviews, and then 1/3-1/2 of those get admitted. Anybody?

I guess it doesn't matter, since we'll all be getting interviews, right?

I feel like the interview offers percentage is higher than 1 in 3, because I was told they usually get around 200 applications for a class of about 77. So right there that is an admission rate greater than 1 in 3. Also, I'm not sure if they offer interviews to a certain percentage of the applicants, or a certain number. Like if they were to receive 200 applications and offer 100 interviews one year, and the next year receive 300 applications, would they offer 150 interviews or still only 100?

Ladies I have the flu, must we discuss percentages, it makes my head hurt hehe :loveya:

If I had to guess, I would say admissions was giving me an average, ballpark kind of a number, but I really didn't analyze it. I was given a number significantly higher than 200, so perhaps that explains the discrepancy. And while I can't really disregard what I was told, I'm certainly happy to be wrong. 75 out of 200 is definitely more optimistic! Shall we just go with that, then?

MaryAsh, Do not fear, no hypothetical statistical debate will ensue. But I gotta ask - What kind of Super-bug Mega-Flu do you have? Seems like you've been down for awhile, or is time just moving slower since we've been applying to nursing school? Seems like it, doesn't it? Haha. Feel better, Girl.
