Hi! I am out of ideas, so I figured I would post and maybe someone would have a genius idea.
I have been an Oncology/Med-Surg nurse for 5 years and graduated with my MSN a few weeks ago. Next month, I will sit for the AGPCNP boards. The problem is, I have no desire to be an NP (I was in too deep before realizing this). My ideal job would be off hours (not 8-5), have something to do with healthcare, and not sit in an office setting. Primarily, I think I would love to educate people (Physicians, Nurses, Patients), but I am not going back to school anytime soon, especially after my 9 year stint. I haven't been happy in my job, and I realize I'm being picky. I've been looking into Pharmaceutical and clinical educator jobs but haven't found anything that excites me. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
Anything would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I work in an outpatient infusion therapy clinic as a center director.
I choose what hours I work based on how I schedule the patients. Occasionally do clinical work like starting iv's, mixing meds, and infusions. But mostly administrative duties and doing H&P's.
It's pretty laid back compared to other NP positions. What part of the country do you live in?

Designer NP,
I am in the same boat! I'm in too deep to back out now and have no desire to sit in an office and see patients at 10 minute visits or fill a GNP seat in LTC. Need autonomy, creativity, something different and uneek! There are websites related to creative nursing, enterprenuer nurses, non-traditional nursing jobs and consulting if you have time to google and look into them. You might get an idea there. Good luck! Wish me luck! or toss some ideas my way if you have any! :)

What about consultant for those looking to set up NP practices or such? Might be travel. You could work for a head hunter (more and more are signing on to find NP's, PA's and CRNA's jobs). When my hubby (MD) used Merritt Hawkins for head hunter they were exclusively doing physicians. Now they are headhunting for NP's, etc. It requires travel to meet with prospects. Teaching at the university level (maybe even online classes that offer a lot of flexibility). I'll be interested in seeing what others come up with. Good luck!
