No Pharmacology paper....

I am in my second year of a 3 year Bachelor of Nursingdegree in New Zealand (I'm not sure how different this is in other countries).In first year we had a 5 month paper on the 'basics' of pharmacology; now in mysecond year I was surprised when I discovered we don't take a pharmacologypaper. It seems so strange that a Nursing degree doesn't require it's student to take papers on a vital part of nursing! I have been studying it in my owntime but it is definitely not enough.

Is this normal for other nursing schools? Or am I overreacting at the prospect of wading through undergraduate pharmacology bymyself?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by paper. Research paper?

In my class, we did not do a research paper in pharm. We were required to know the drugs before we went into clinicals, and each week we turned in a care plan with all of the drugs for the patient that included nursing interventions, side effects, action of drug, etc. But pharm was tough, and for me it was an ongoing thing. Every semester we had drugs to know and memorize.

I am guessing the school believes you are out of the research stage and now in the application stage. Don't worry. You will have plenty opportunities to churn out information.
