No home life on 2nd shift/ Worth it?

I currently work in PA at a LTC facility on 3rd shift (w/$1 shift diff), and am changing to 2nd shift this week (w/$3 shift diff), basically had no choice due to position eliminated :o. I am concerned as to wether I'll have some semblance of a personal home/family life. My husband works 6A-3P Mon-Fri, and my daughter gets home from school at 3:30. Of those of you out there with families who work 2nd shift, how does it work for you. What is the best way for me to handle the change :uhoh21:? I'm told by my co-workers that I'll like the paycheck, but I won't see my family as much :o. I am thinking about looking elsewhere (possibly MD) and also doing my LPN-BSN online while I work.

Any thoughts?

I would say, that it is not worth it, if you can do without the extra. How does your husband feel about it? Think about it seriously, sometimes, when it comes to your family, it is not worth it. Try the shift, if it works, good if not change it. I know alot of people are struggling to make ends meet. do what you have to do, but think about your husbands needs also. you dont want to emotionally disconnect with your husband, that can cause probems you don't want. ( if you know what I mean:o)

WHen our sons were little I always worked third shift - that way I slept while they were either in school/daycare during the summer and was home in the evening with them/hubby.

I never worked second shift for the very reason I would be gone when everyone else was at home.

Second shift almost ruined my marriage. We never saw each other. He got lonely, started hanging with friends in bars. I stopped. It stopped. He asked that I never work second shift again- I never did. Most people have always thought that we had a great marriage & we do. Second shift was not worth it.

I loved working second shift, but rarely did it once I had kids old enough to keep daytime hours.

It sounds as if it's not worth it for you. I'd look around for something else, either days or 3rd shift.

I would suggest not quitting this job until you have another one lined up, though. You and your family would all know that this was temporary so it would be bearable.

Good luck!
