I just started my new job this week as a nurse at an Alzhiemers assisted living. I only have 5 days of orientation and start "O" on Friday. So far I'm overwhelmed !!! I'll be the part time float nurse working 7-3 or 3-11pm. I was hoping to look for advice on an A.L. forum but didn't see one. So if there are any nurses out there that work in assisted living any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!!! :redbeathe:clown:

We do have a geriatric and LTC forum and there are several assisted living nurses that post there. Good luck on your new job.
Thanks !!! I'm been lurking over there... so hopefully I'll find a thread.

the assisted living facility where i work operates more like a nursing home and it shouldn't, so i can't really give you much practical advice except:
help the residents maintain the adls that they can do. remember not to "assist" them too much. you'll assist them right into a nursing home.
try to work as a team with the cnas or front line staff. every staff member is important to the care of the resident.
there's probably more but after an exhausting day with a crazy don, i'm done for.
