need input on duties for nurse attending deliveries

Specialties NICU

we are in the process of increasing our NICU to an 80 pt bed unit and moving to a new building. Currently a nurse with a light assignment attends all the high risk ( code deliveries). However we are getting busier and we are changing that role. We are lookinging into just keeping a nurse for all deliveries with no assignment. But when not on deliveries we need other duties for that role. aside from being a float nurse and helping others with busy assingments, I was wondering if anyone else works with this type of role. What type of other responsiblilites do they have? Pls respond

We have a high risk nurse that doesn't have an assignment, she just goes on ALL high risk deliveries. In addition to going on the deliveries, some other duties include:

-get admit beds ready

-check all the intubation baskets in the unit, L&D and ORs (making sure all are fully supplied and each blade/handle is working)

-check all the code carts in the unit, L&D, and ORs

-check all the radiant warmers in the ORs and in the trauma center

-check all refrigerator temps

-stock the linen

-relieve people for breaks if they don't have a pod partner

-help with any procedures that need to be done, help with any busy assignements, and help with admits

I'm sure there are a bunch of other things that I'm forgetting, but I think that's the gist of it. I hope that helps some.

the nurse clinician goes to deliveries on our unit. They also do transport, PICC placement, walk around asking to see if anyone needs help, they also trade off running the ecmo pump to gove the ecmo nurse a break. hmm, they also write the updates for the referring hospitals on the babies who were transported in. When they are out on transport, the charge nurse goes to the delivery. Charge generally doesnt have an assignment.

This is pretty close to what we do in addition to the deliveries.

We also help go to off unit procedures.
