I have been in the NICu for almost a year. I posted last year after I had been in it for a couple months and said I would never get it. I was sooo depressed and stressed. But, after a year I feel so much better about it. Dont get me wrong I still have questions and tons to learn, but now I dont go home crying from stress. Thanks for all your support. I love NICU and I love this website. :icon_hug:

Thanks for the encouraging note! I really love the unit where I work - great people, interesting babies, awesome schedule - but what's that expression? Some days you tame the tiger. Other days the tiger has you for lunch. That's where I'm at. :)

Thanks for posting the update. So often, people post to vent when they are angry or post looking for support when they are in the midst of a crisis -- and then never post when the situation gets resolved in a positive way.

I hope lots of the people graduating now (or recently) read your post and take heart from it. Feeling overwhelmed in the beginning is normal. I'm glad you "stuck it out" until you had enough time and enough experience to get beyond that stage.

I feel the same way as you do......I started almost exactly a year ago, and it's hard to believe what I've learned and how far I've come in the last year. I am by no means completely comfortable with NICU, but that's how it should be. When I get comfortable, that's when I let my guard down. I never would have imagined myself sprinting to the ER or LD/OR to resuscitate a micropreemie, and actually knowing what to do , or doing it without throwing up or passing out from sheer terror. I help save babies lives. All my hair that's fallen out, and my pet ulcer Tony is all worth it even after the end of the night from hell, if I know on my way home that I made a difference in giving one child his life back.......
