Hi! I'm currently a civilian RN in a NICU and am applying to join the air force for the end of this year. Looks like I'll be going before the selection board in October 2014. Anyone else here applying this year as well?

Anyone thats applied before have any suggestions/tips? Like tips on going before the Chief Nursing Officer, best ways to answer the 9 questions they give you, how to deal with the recruiter, COT?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Did you have a second interview over the phone? I had my interview with the Chief Nursing Officer at the beginning of September. My recruiter just called and told me I would have to do a second interview over the phone as well because I'm applying as an Emergency nurse. How was the second interview? What questions were you asked?

So my second interview was on the phone and lasted about an hour and a half. She asked me normal interview questions. Why I wanted to join the Air Force, did I understand I was going to be deployed, how did my family feel about me leaving, what ethical issues I encountered, what did I think about multidisciplinary rounds.

Disclaimer: I've never even met a military NICU nurse...it's such as small specialty. I thought NICU nurses rarely deployed.

Yeah, NICU nursing in the Air Force is extremely small. I haven't found anyone on here or FB applying for NICU this coming board. Let's hope I don't have too much competition as there is only 2 NICU slots this board. Only 4 bases to choose from! And NICU still gets deployed, but as a med-surg RN.

Morgan, I applied as a Nicu nurse as well for the MArch board. this year. What can you tell me about the process? Did you get selected ( sorry hope you don't mind asking) How are you liking it??

Any encouragement in the whole process would be appreciated!!

Sara,

unfortunately I did not get selected last selection board. I only had technically level 2 experience, so they said they wanted me to have more. So I just started a job in January at a level 4 and plan to reapply in September again. It was the most heart breaking thing ever when I found out I didn't get in. I'm feeling more optimistic for later this year though.
