NGT Insertion. STERILE or CLEAN technique?

Hi guys, I'm wondering if NGT insertion should use sterile or clean technique.....

Clean, the GI tract is not sterile. Anything with urinary or respiratory is sterile (along with many other things!)

Specializes in Med/Surg, Tele, IM, OB/GYN, neuro, GI.

It's clean but check the facilities policy some require it to be a sterile procedure.

Clean, because the GI tract is not sterile, however there is a risk of introducing it into the lungs which are supposed to be a sterile environment so making it a "sterile" procedure is not a horrible idea. Basically just keep it as clean as possible and follow the facility policies an procedures. For school testing purposes (unless you ar being taught otherwise) it is a clean procedure.
