Next Semesters Schedule

Published

Hey everyone,

I need a some advice. I'm a little new at all this nursing stuff. Next semester (Spring '11), I have signed up for Biology w/ Lab, Human Growth and Development, General Psychology, and Nutrition. Is that too much? Am I going to kill myself taking four classes I hardly know anything about??

Thanks,

Doesn't everyone take classes they don't know anything about? Anyway, four classes is not difficult at all. I think that even 5 classes is the new standard full-time load for most university students. Psychology and Nutrition are usually the more easier courses. Biology with lab is probably going to be difficult. Half of my biology class is getting a C and lower.

Your class load sounds pretty standard! I on the other hand am taking microbilogy ANNNNND A&P1 next semester, yea what was I thinking, lol

That is a very standard load for a full time college student or one with a part time job (10, maybe 15 hours per week). These rarely have prerequesites, a few of your classmates will know a little but it really isn't expected of you, the class will be taught as if you don't know anything about them. Although, you probably know more about them than you think you.

If you did well in high school taking college prep classes, you will probably do well with these classes. If you struggled or went to a very low intensity high school you should still be able to do very well, if you work at it and get help when you need it (from the prof at office hours, or the tutors in the study centers). My kids (son who is in a frat and daughter who is a resident assistant) came across a rule of thumb that they have found to be very accurate in general: good grades, busy social life, enough sleep - you get two of the three.

If you are a returning student trying to do this with a full time job and a family, it is probably too much. Some people do it anyway and a few of them do well anyway.

I haven't taken Biology since high school and was able to test out of it for college and I haven't taken Nutrition yet, but I have taken Human Growth and Psych. Both of those classes were fairly easy. I just took Human Growth last quarter on line and it was a cake walk.....easy A (at least for me). Psych I took 10 years ago, but as far as I remember it was easy too and I got an A in that as well. Those too classes seemed like a cake walk (as I said) compared to Chemistry, which I took this last quarter! UGH! It was miserable. I really liked the class, but it took a lot of work. I am taking A&P 1 next quarter, but I am really excited about that class. Good luck next quarter! I think you should do fine! :)

In my experience Biology is the easiest science class to take. Nutrition might be a little hard..depending on your instructor, gen psych is a fairly easy class as well. I think your class load is pretty standard. good luck!

Thank you guys! It makes me feel a little better to know that's a standard workload. I also work about 40 hours a week... I may need to cut back and focus on school this semester. Haha. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the encouragement! :)
