Newlywed, Newborn and 2 year old, Accelerated or Traditional program?

Published

I would really appreciate any advice that you guys have to offer. I am a fulltime pre-nursing student at GSU. I have a 3.65 GPA and I am hoping to score very well on the NET to get into nursing for the spring 2010 semester. I am contemplating on whether or not I should do the accelerated or traditional program. The accelerated program is 16 months long and the traditional program is 3 years long. I have already been in school for 3 years and I am so ready to get OUT, but I do not want to rush and overload myself and then drop out anyway. My husband and I will be married for one year come November, my daughter will be 2 in July and I am expecting my second child in October.

Has anyone in a similar situation done a fast paced nursing school program and got through it? 16 months v.s. 3 years...16 months sounds great, but is it worth it? Please offer any advice!

Hello I am currently in my last semester of nursing school. My program is accelerated and I have 5 children, when I was accepted into nursing school I was pregnant and due when classes started. I think it was tuff getting thru nursing school but If your husband is willing to pick up the slack with the kids, around the house things and things you use to do then you would be fine. Nursing for me has been hard as far as not seeing my family as much as I would like on not having the energy to cook dinner or clean. I had to remember I would not be a student always. Just prepare yourself and your husband for the road ahead. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AND EYE ON THE PRIZE :nurse:. Hope this helps.

Wow, sound like you had alot more on your plate. My husband is pretty domestic and is good with helping around the house with things so I know that he will be able to pick up my slack in those areas. The only problem would be the cooking part. lol. I am pretty excited. Plus, my nursing school gives you the option of dropping down if its too much so...thanks again!

You will be fine. We had to resort to T.V. diners. LOL

I'm in an accelerated program with 5 children too! The main issue by far is how supportive your husband is, and if he realizes that most of the time you are in school he will feel like a single parent. If he can realistically deal with that then go for it! Especially if you have the option to drop down, I say why not at least try? Good luck!

Thanks so much guys...I will be speaking with my husband to make sure that he is mentally prepared...
