Newly qualified nurse. where to work when I finish my maternity leave?

Published

Hi,

I qualified in September 2015 and worked for 3 months on a busy oncology ward. I still have a job there when I return to work in January. My problem is my husband works away from home two weeks at a time so I only wish to do two days a week. Basically its like being a single mum. I can only get child care from 7.30am until 5.30pm.

My current job is an hour away if traffic is ok. I have let my ward know that I would like to do two days and that I can only get child care on two set days a week. I know this isn't very flexible for nursing). if my husband was at home I would do more. The sister has said this may not be possible, I really want to go back to work to get more experience but may have to consider other options. the only problem is I live in a small town full of nursing homes and GP's surgeries. Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions or have been in a similar situation and have any alternative work options? I would prefer not to go straight to a nursing home as I feel I wont be learning much. I have considered bank work. Any other ideas? I'm just worried lack of experience would stop me getting a job.

Thanks

Leanne.
