In my institution the nurses enter the info on the fillers of the newborn ident-a-bands using PENCILS. They say the graphite does not "run" after the baby is bathed like ink does. I have not been able to find any information on a "best practice" for this issue or any evidence for or against ink or graphite.
How does your institution handle this issue?
Thanks.

The ink that runs most appears to be from the "roller-ball" pens. I prefer to use the pen that comes in the box of bands. I can't imagine using pencil!

Oh my! I can't imagine using pencil for this. We use the waterproof pens included in the ident-a-band box too.

We use regular ball-point pens. Never had a problem with the ink running.

We actually have special pens for Ident-a-band use. They do not run or blur with use, even immersion in water.
