the new york state nurses association annual convention will be at the conference & event center niagara falls and the sheraton at the falls in niagara falls, new york, september 22-25, 2011. "healthcare: powered by nurses," is our theme for registered nurses who will find innovative ways to take advantage of new opportunities for themselves and their profession.

this year's convention offers a wide variety of events. the highlighted speakers include:

- robert kodzis - work life: finding the intersection between success and happiness - this session will provide you with tools to help recognize the signs of burn-out and ways to create a better balance between work and home.

- past nysna presidents - reflections and revelations: nysna past presidents share their knowledge- see unique perspectives on the association's challenges and victories, as well as hopes for the future of nursing.

- linda aiken, phd, rn, faan - institute of medicine future of nursing report and more- learn the significance of this report for nursing.

other educational topics will include therapeutic hypothermia, violence, legislative issues, evidence-based practice in nursing, safe injection practices, health care reform, cardiac surgery warranty, muslim patients, transforming healthcare, 21st century nursing challenges, and nurse's legal duty.

other activities include a fun run/walk, an exhibit hall featuring health-related vendors, an awards banquet, niagara falls tour, social event, networking luncheon, and a dinner honoring the nurse researcher of the year. the convention also features "labor day," with activities for nurses represented for collective bargaining, a unique session designed for nursing students, as well as countless opportunities to discuss and shape the future of nursing in new york and beyond.
