VEEB LPN Program (info request)

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi All,

I'll be starting at VEEB in the Fall and was wondering if there are any current or past VEEB students that can give some info on this program.

What are the Teachers like?

What are the required books?

Is the program as intense as they say?

Do they have articulation agreements with other nursing (RN) programs? If so, with who?

Are there any disadvantages in taking the LPN course outside of a Community College setting?

Do they provide job Placement at the end???

Any information that ANYONE can provide will be GREATLY appreciated! I really want to have a full understanding of what I'm in for. I have 2 year old Twins and I am a little worried about whether or not I'll be able to juggle school/studying and Family!

What do you guys think about out 2nd test? And what was up with the question about the eggs? What kind of test was that? I was very surprised to see something like that. Am I the only one?

What question about eggs?

Hey praise! LOL I do not remember a question about eggs... What was it.

What question about eggs?

How many eggs can a person have in a week?

How many eggs can a person have in a week?

don't remember that on my test but the answer would be 2-3. We discussed that in the Nutrition module

:yeah:Just want to say CONGRATULATIONS, class of 2010 on finishing the first semester!!!:yeah:

Congrats to all who made it through 1st semester!

Thank U! Congrats everybody! We just have 2 more to go!:)

Now the REAL fun begins.......

Congrats Everyone!

Semesters 2 and 3 are a completely different animal. Don't listen to the instructors when they say 3 isn't too bad compared to 2, trust me it's just as difficult if not more.

Also if any of you have all the following college credits with a C or higher for A&P 1+2, General Psychology, Introductory English and Statistics; definitely aim for a overall program average of a 90. It would qualify you for Nassau Community College's articulation agreement with VEEB. You would transfer your college credits in and you start with a fresh GPA.

The articulation agreement allows you to bypass a online nursing course from Excelsior and a 2 hour patient care simulation. You would just have to score 90 or higher on a dosage exam. VEEB prepares you really well for that, and if you have a 90 average in VEEB, you'll probably get 100. You will also need to pass your boards by December.

Basically you'd start in January, right into the second semester of their 4 semester A.S. program. You can also apply as an LPN if you don't qualify for the agreement, but the applicant pool is quite large from what one of the professors has told me.

To put it into perspective, when a fellow VEEB articulation candidate and I went to take the dosage exam there were about 25 other non articulation LPN's there to test. And the exam is given pretty often actually. According to the online system there are 33 seats open for the second semester of nursing, 10 are allotted per year for VEEB and BOCES articulation students.

I know many of you are also considering Helene Fuld, but due to VEEB's antiquated traditions, the earliest you can start their nursing courses is April 11' if you have 85 or higher in each class. So you'd finish the NCC or HF program within the same vicinity of time.

If you live in Nassau, NCC will cost you 3,700 for the core nursing classes and 7,400 if you live elsewhere. Helene Fuld is 15,000 for the full time 1 year program, but 1199 will pay for it. On the other hand though it will be more intense since you have to take a few non nursing classes, and they won't take your college credits (besides english) not unless you CLEP them.

Both programs do have introductory courses before you can start nursing classes, NCC has a 4 5-hour session 1 credit course with a project to complete and HF has it's month long math/chem course.

I hope I was able to shed some light for you guys, last year at this time I was getting very anxious about my options after VEEB. The school pretty much left me in the dark about all this until the week of graduation.

Thanks for all the great info Grindin, you are the best! I'm really nervous about second semester, how bad is it? Is the material much harder? And how is medsurg different from long term care?

The material isn't really that much more difficult, but the volume of material may become overwhelming at times.

As far as medsurg, it really depends on where they place you. Most likely you won't be able to administer medications, unless you're at the nursing home.

Essentially though its the same, you'll learn some more procedures and you'll be in charge of the complete care and assessment of 1 patient. Advanced medsurg is the same thing as well, except you'll be in charge of more patients.

Pray you don't get assigned to Holly Patterson.

I got assigned to NUMC (which i keep referring to as NCMC, can't help it). I'm hoping I'll get good practice there, but i think its one of the places where i won't get to administer drugs. Anyone know how it will be there? I heard New Island was really good.
