Suffolk Community College Fall 2013 applicants

U.S.A. New York

Hey everyone, I didn't see a thread for the applicant pool for SCCC Fall 2013. I applied to the night program as my first choice and the day program as my second choice, at the Selden campus. I was wondering what program everyone else was applying to, and if anyone applied to any other schools. I also applied to Stony Brook's 2 year program for Fall 2013 entrance. Good luck to everybody. I can't wait until April/May to get those decision letters.

I applied for fall 2013 day program at ammerman. Pretty confident though with a 4.0 on the pre reqs. Everyone leave ur pre req grades so we can all see who we are competing with lol. Good luck to all!

\\ A&P 1 - A //

\\A&P 2 - A //

\\English 101- A //

\\Psych 101- A //

\\Microbiology- A //

I actually switched my first choice to Ammerman Day now ... and Ammerman Evening as my second choice. (I just accepted an evening CNA position at Stony Brook University Hospital!)

My pre-req grades are:

A&PI - A

A&PII - A

ENG101 - B+

PSY101 - B

I took microbiology at Stony Brook during my undergraduate career and received an A-, but SCCC doesn't count it because it's without a lab component. I am therefore enrolled in micro for Spring 2013 at Suffolk and expect to get an A.

Today is the deadline for applications. Now the waiting game begins! I'm so nervous and excited!!

@kris10noel when did you graduate SBU and what was your major (I am also a sea wolf)

@stinanina89 I actually just earned my degree this past August, 2012. But I started my course work at stony brook in January 2007. Had some bumps along the way that slowed me down! ;) Oh, and my major was Biology, general track. How about yourself?

I graduated in 2011 but also started in 2007. I majored in health science but now looking for clinical experience via a nursing major at Suffolk.

you should get in too. if you don't, retake eng and psych next fall while you're waiting to apply again, and get A's.

Ohhh @RpmSteve I sure hope so!! And yes, if I am denied by sccc and not accepted into SBU Nursing either, that is my plan to retake those courses. Unfortunately I took ENG and PSY when I first started college some 9 years ago (yikes, that makes me feel old!) and had no idea what I wanted to do nor the importance of those two grades! So it goes...

Hi all I am new to this thread. I applied to ammerman day program. I already have a bachelors degree. I was accepted to Suffolk's program last year but declined to start Liu Brooklyn's accelerated program. I completed one semester and could not afford the 16,000 a semester as well as the 350 monthly train pass because i was commuting. I am hoping Suffolk will accept me again. I also applied to stony brooks two year (still waiting) and there accelerated ( rejected). I was told people who received A's in Microbiology where given preference but I could have been told the wrong information. Good luck everyone!

Hey Corrine,

Good luck for this year. If u got in last year then you've most likely got a good chance to get in again. What were the pre req grades that got you in last year if you don't mind me asking. I have two friends who have also applied as well and they are nervous about getting in. One has A's in AP1, AP2, and English, and a B in psych (total 3.79 pre req gpa). The other has a B in AP1, B+ in AP2, and A's in psych and English (total 3.57 pre req gpa). The first friend will most likely get in but I'm not sure of the other.

Thank you good luck as well. I hope I am lucky enough to be accepted again. My gpa for prereqs is only a 3.56. My prerequisites were AP1 B+, AP2 A, Psy B+, Micro A, eng B. any one who takes micro has an advantage if you did well. Honestly it depends on how high the competing applicants gpa's are. But sccc is very competitive. They start from the top gpa and work there way down till the seats are taken. So 4.0, 3.7, then 3.5, and so on dont quote me on that exactly but that is what admissions told me last year. I also have my Bachelors degree so I have all the programs requirements except the nursing courses which I have mostly A's in so I believe that helped me as well. Last year they told me anyone with a 3.5 or higher usually gets a seat.

Good luck! Have you tried SUNY farmingdale state college? They have a few options for nursing majors.. I don't think tuition is thattt bad . They recently starting interviewing nursing applicants before acceptance so that's nice

And by the way , since you already have a BS from a different school it's very important you apply to a nursing school that has a accredited BSN excel program. Sccc does not, and they may make u take liberal arts courses again. Employers in NY are trying to become or maintain magnet status , which puts nurses at a high standard requiring a BSN . If you go for ur associates then you will most likely have a very difficult time finding employment

Going to Suffolk is my last resort. I was in Liu in Brooklyn's accelerated and I couldnt afford the 16,000 a semester. I did not get into stony brooks accelerated so im waiting to here about there two year bsn. I graduated from Farmingdale with my bachelors but the deadline had already past to apply. As far as Suffolk goes I don't have to retake any of my liberal arts courses especially since I got my associates degree from them. So if I have to go to Suffolk ill have to get right back to school for my bsn. But thank you for the I for action.
