Has anyone else been accepted into the program Fall 2013? Also can I get some feedback from the students that just finished their first semester. I would like to know what to expect from the school.

Congrats BOW28ala!

I just finished my first semester in the Staten Island campus. Be prepared to study, take lots of notes, and the most important thing is make a couple of good friends and become study partners. There are a lot of exams, my advice is to study hard and score as high as possible on each exam this way by the time the final comes you do not have to start worrying about whether or not your going to pass the class. Most of the teachers help, just ask them. They give homework and group projects- those grades do not count unless you have a 78 average by the end of the semester. Not everyone does the homework (projects are mandatory participation)- I would suggest doing it though, not only for the boost of your grade but also because you do learn from it.

Good Luck, you will do great!

I'm entering my last semester at SPSON Queens campus. The program is fair in its difficulty. Just do your work and avoid the politics that maybe present. Sometimes you have to be proactive and be a go getter because the school doesn't have too much time on their hand to cater to every individual. It's like that in all schools. Your biggest goals should be to get good grades, passing your NCLEX, BSN program and hopefully a job. Try to prepare for NCLEX from the first semester so you don't have to cram during your last. All the best.

Did people have problems finding jobs and transferring to other SUNY or CUNY schools with SPSON, not being an accredited school?

SPSON is accredited as much as they need to be by NY state. They just dont have the fancy label of NLN yet. There are some schools that don't take SPSON credits but there many that do.SPSON are NLN candidates. They are going to be evaluated this September so I hope they become accredited. Then there should, not,be a problem. As far as getting a job very few places take associate graduates like, aside from nursing homes so having a Bachelor is a plus.Almost all nursing graduates have a hard time getting a job not just from SPSON. Try to do internships in the summer, volunteer, leave a good impression in your clinicals, make good relationships with professors and get the help of the career advisor at the school and you should be good.

@ nike33 I was reading on previous comments, and they were stating that some of the teachers were out to fail students. Do you feel that is the case there?

@BOW28ala. There are some professors who are tough to be honest but like one or two.But what are you going to do?Most schools have professors like that.If you can avoid them good. Not that they are unmanageable but it's just extra personalites you have to deal, with. It comes down to you. There are a lot of students who just go through the motions. Then there those, who, really want to be nurses. If you can set a steady schedule then things will be easy even if the professor is hard.If you wait last minute to do things then even easy professors are hard.
