Hello,

Looking to change careers and have been taking my pre-reqs (A&P I and II, Chemistry, Psych...etc) at Bergen Community College in NJ. I intend to apply at Bergen and RCCC's Nursing program. Just looking for any suggestions or information about RCCC"s RN program. I did a search here, but can only find threads on RCCC Boce.

Hi,

I should be starting RCC next semester.

I am a LPN and spoke to the director of nursing at RCC and she told me that as a LPN you don't have to go on the waitlist and they let you test out on ALOT of classes. I think if you have all your prereqs done and you pass all the classes you can test out on , you can finish in 1-2 semesters.

I think if you are not a LPN though there is a waitlist. Not sure about how long it is.

after looking at the curriculum, i have done everything but the nursing courses. going to an information session next week to learn more. i were told that if one has the pre-reqs.....this may move you up the waiting list some. i will confirm and verify this next week though.

I actually just left RCC because even with all the pre-reqs the waiting list is ridiculous, and as of last semester they stopped doing the waiting list as a "first come first serve", now it's a lottery and the list is 2-3 years.

Do you know anything about Dominican College ? I was thinking about going there too but I hear it is expensive.

I have a friend who goes to Dominican, it is up there in price but that is expected from a private institution. I believe their program is competitive, however not as much as RCC

Dominican is about $10,000 more a semester than RCC. It has a very tough but excellant nursing program. The above poster is right, RCC doesn't use a waiting list anymore but you have an advantage if you already hold a LPN license, you will be accepted with no wait.

I don't have a LPN....but like i said above.....i have a Bachelors in Business and have completed A&P I and II, Gen and Dev Psych, Sociology and taking Chemistry now....

Any thoughts on my chances ? I am meeting with someone from the Dept on Oct 6th. Just trying to gather as much info as I can before going.

i am in the same boat as you. i have ba as well and went to school for 4.5 years (two private schools-what a mistake!). i was considering the accelerated program at dominican but it is so expensive. i am applying to the rcc program this week, still have to take a&p i and ii as well as micro. i currently work f/t in advertising making 30k a year 8:30-5:30. i cant believe i went to school for 4.5 years to make this! do you think it is realistic to continue to work f/t and do the nursing program at the same time? i need the money, i am not eligible for assistance and health coverage is important. i am hoping it wont matter much that i am doing the as instead of a bsn. i have been interested in nursing for some time now, i just know this is going to take a while. it would be great if i could find a less demanding job, maybe even a secretary or assistant in a hospital. i am so confused!!!! :confused:

I'm a student at east wick college in NJ and they have a 1yr day time or 18mon evening LPN now after you become an LPN they have a 1 RN program
