I was wondering that exact same thing...all of the jobs I have seen posted at various NYC hospitals say a BSN is required. Should I still just apply anyway if I have an associates..even if they say a bachelors is required?

As long as you plan to get your BSN you should be OK. Tell them you plan on going back and finishing. I am a big advocate for a BSN being the minimun degree for practice..if we want to be considered a profession and treated as professionals we must raise the bar.

NYU will NOT hire you without a BSN. Just met up with them at a job fair and talked about this for a little while. (I have my BSN, and NYU is too far for me anyway, but it was an interesting conversation)

Not sure about other NYC hospitals.

As long as you have your RN license....BSN is preferred, but it is not necessary in most hospitals

In other parts of New York State, this is the New York State forum, many, many hospitals hire Associate Degree nurses. I can't count the number of job openings in New York State for RN 's with an associates. Please remember this is a forum for all of my state, not just New York City, their is a difference.

In my area of NYS, it matters not at all. Sometimes you'll see "BSN preferred", but hey, they'll prefer MSNs over BSNs, but doesn't mean they're getting one, lol. ADNs have their choice of many positions.

Hey, realnursealso: do we live in the same cyber-town? <grin> I see you're in Over The Rainbow, too!

You may consider trying to apply to HHC (Health and Hospital Corporation of New York). They pay less than other facilities, but just to get your foot in the door, it may look better on your resume to say that you worked for a City Hospital because of the heavy patient volume.
