Phillips Beth Israel Applicants

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has applied to the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in NYC for the coming year? I am looking to get into their part-time evening program that would begin in Spring 2011. I'm taking the NLN this Wed and really nervous about it, really just the verbal part....

I am thinking about applying there but the commute from Queens to the city every day I think would burn me out. I probably will apply and am also applying to schools in the area and if no one excepts me and they do I would have to consider it because I really dont want to wait anymore! DO you live in the city?

GOod luck on the NLN I took it already a few weeks ago...piece of advice - study PHYSICS! KNow about the Kelvin there were like 3 questions on it. The math was not bad at all...the english was not as hard as the english is in the review books but it is kinda difficult. GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the reply! I actually live in jersey but work in nyc at memorial sloan kettering. what other schools r u applying to? i am plannin on working full time and this seems to be the only program within the area that is most accommodating...did you send ur application before taking the test?

good luck to you!

I am getting my application together and will hopefully send it by Monday. Just curious...I am coming from Queens is it better to drive or take the train. What do you guys do?

where in queens are you? im not sure about parking or anything down there so imm not really a good person to ask, maybe someone else will post and be able to help.

i am planning on working full time still so i would be coming from work on 66th and 2nd and taking the nrw down...it's a pretty quick subway ride, not too bad.

Kuklara511,

Where in queens do you live? I live in queens too but I'm right by the "L" train so it's not that bad of a commute for me. It depends on where you're coming from. I would rather be stuck in traffic in my car listening to music than be squished on the train next to a smelly person...LOL! Don't know about parking there though. I'm sure they have parking garages but you'll be paying through your nose.

Good luck on your test Starlette. Kuklara is right about the physics. Don't see why we need to know about electricity and the velocity of objects but whatever. I found the vocabulary part to be the hardest. You will never ever use those words in your life.

Thanks guys! Jayzelena, i am putting down evening program and ATOP. i would prefer the evening program since it works best with my schedule right now, but we'll see what happens...did you go to the open house? after going i knew that this was the school i wanted to go to. i haven't really applied anywhere else. have you? I'm taking the NLN tomorrow! and there's going to be that snow storm lol i'm worried. were they sticklers about bags? i have to bring a suitcase becasue i am supposed to go to DC this weekend.

Good luck to you!

I live in Bellereose which is borderline long island. I don't mind driving a distance to go to school but it is all the traffic that bothers me. If they call me for an interview I will drive in just to see how it is. I know NOTHING about directions in the city but I believe it should be pretty straight forward LOL just follow the street numbers - my car has GPS but I hope it works in MAnhattan. I meant to ask, what is traditional schedule and ATOP schedule? I am just waiting for my high school transcripts to get here then I will FINALLY send my application in.

They didn't hastle anyone about their bags. They said not to bring any books with you but plenty of people did for last minute studying. The only thing they were anal about was having a water bottle on your desk. I accidently left mine on the desk and the lady looked at me like she was gonna kill me. Not nice. Anyway, look at the snow as a blessing. It's good luck when it rains on your wedding day so it's good luck when it snows on your test day. :D I haven't applied to any other Nursing Schools either. I currently attend QCC but their nursing program is extremely competitive. They just look at your grades and not at the whole person. When I went to Beth Israel's open house, like you, I knew this was the school for me. I just pray that we get in! Lots of luck on your test. You'll do great!:yeah:

Kuklara,

That is pretty far to commute on public transportation. You already know my opinion on that one. I would rather be in my car.

Traditional option is the full time program- Mon-Fri. Not sure about the hours but it is during the day. ATOP is only for those who have finished their pre-reqs like A/P 1&2, English, Soc, Psy, & Micro. Classes are Thurs 3-8 Fri 9-5 and Sat 9-5. It is also a two year program. I have all except Micro so if I take it this summer I can go into ATOP but I don't know if that's gonna happen. We shall see. Which program are you applying for?

Oh my goodness guys, looks like they might have cancelled the test tomorrow because of the snow! =/ I just want to get it over and done with...

Jayzelena, you're already in the nursing program at QCC?

kuklara, if you're borderline LI that's definitely a long way to commute by train...
