Hi all, I am a new graduate RN and have an interview at Mount Sinai with the nurse recruiter on Wednesday. I was wondering if anyone has any tips, advise, or information on the interview process/questions asked? I'm really nervous and want to make sure I am as prepared as possible because I really want to start my career!!

Any advise would be amazing!!!

Congratulations on getting that interview. What I found to work is to be prepared; review questions you think they might ask like what are you weakness/ strengths; research their history, mission statement and values. Go on youtube and look up "how to do a job interview" Those videos have some really good tips. Bring a copy of your resume and cover letter and a list of your references, and ask them questions like nurse/patient ratio, orientation process -stuff like that.

How long did it take for you get that interview? What would you suggest for a BSN RN with less than a year of psych do to find a job in a hospital?

I hope my tips help. And Good luck on Wednesday!

I went through this guide and it was really helpful...

http://nursing.jhu.edu/life-at-hopkins/center/documents/interview_guide.pdf

Think of a couple different clinical patients that could be applied to a variety of questions, such as: a stressful patient or situation, a complex patient and the nursing interventions you used, a time where you went above and beyond for a patient...etc. Also, it's good to have a few leadership examples ready to talk about.

No matter what you say make sure you are confident! Even if you get stuck on a question just act like you know what you are talking about lol. And don't forget to smile! :)

I just submitted an application to Mt. Sinai after reading your post. I'm also a new grad...how long did it take you to hear back from them? And what kind of position did you apply for?

Good Luck!!

It took about 2 months to hear back from them, I applied to 3 different positions, 2 on med/surg floors and 1 on a surgical stepdown. My interview is with the nurse recruiter to discuss what areas I'm interested in since they "only accept new grads on certain floors." The nurse recruiter neglected to tell me which floors though. My friend has a job there and said that they are still placing kids that interned there last summer and are now hired on scholarship, so I may take the back burner until they find positions for them. I'm just happy to finally hear back from hospital!

Thank you so much for your tips, I'll be sure to post how everything goes afterward!

The nurse recruiter I met with at Mount Sinai was really nice. The interview was very causal. She asked a questions regarding patient safety, patient satisfaction, and teamwork. Just be yourself! You'll do great!

Thanks for the info! I applied to 3 different Med/surg positions...I wasn't sure which ones I should but none of them said anything about previous experience required. Definitely let us know how it goes and if you get the job!

No. They're 2 different hospital systems.

Well hopefully they're still just backed up from having to place the people with scholarships, I know my friend said there were still like 6/15 of them waiting to get placed on a unit. Stay positive! And thanks for all your help!

My interview went really well! The burse receuiter asked me a few "describe a time when..." questions, then she got me an interview with the nurse manager of a rehab floor. That interview went well as well, i met a few nurses and got a tpur of the unit. I met back with the nurse recruiter to tell her how it went and she said I should be hearing back soon if I got the position. So now I just have to be positive and wait and see! Thanks again for all the helpful tips and encouragement!
